My first Jeep, I'm like a kid at Christmas!

Hi guys and girls, my first post here as I'm about to acquire my first Jeep (December 1997 TJ Wrangler Sahara 4.0 in black).

Since I'm new to the foum I don't think I'm able to embed pictures yet, however the links below will take you to my new baby!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/Cleggmeister/DSCF1920.jpg

It's been really well maintained both cosmetically and mechanically, and as you'll see from the pictures it's had a rather nice set of stainless sides/bumpers and pipes.

The current owner is throwing in a Jeep tonneau, however since he's never had it out of the cardboard neither of us are sure of what to do with it. Can I use it like a soft top when driving, or is it simply to put over the roll bars to keep out the rain when parked? Any advice on installing this and it's general useage would be gladly received!

Next up I'm going to keep the standard wheels but I'm looking for some higher sidewalled tyres. Through searching this forum I understand that the biggest I can fit (without lift) are 30x9.50x15, however being a Brit I've no idea what this equates to. The standard tyres in English money are 225/75/15. Any help in this area again gladly received, and if anyone's running the tyres I'm after on the stock rims please let me know your thoughts!

Further modifications will include privacy tints on the rear windows and a couple of KC daylighters (those ones with the smiley face covers - man I love them!).

Anyway, I'm going to go now and drool over those pictures again. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions for a newbie.

I have to say I have never seen pipes like that on a jeep...Welcome!

I have 31x10.5 on a stock height TJ...that equals a 265/75/15 in metric. Although you're pictures make it out to look slightly lower than usual. You may want to take it to a tire shop to see what they say.

Those things are WAYYY to shiny to be functional... If they are he must have never driven it in the rain.. Cause it would bake on there and dull that shine... Personally I would ditch that whole system and throw on an Original Flow 40... I have that and would recommend it to every 4.0 Jeep owner out there...

Thanks chaps, thanks for the good words. 54,000 on the clock with a full service history.

The pipes sound incredible, though quite noisy. I might put some silencers inline if it becomes too much. The pipes are stainless steel so should clean up nicely so long as I take care of them. Unfortunately the "u-bend" at the front of each is crome, hence will get messy if not licked lovingly daily (at least that's what I'm telling the wife).

As for the ground clearance *ducks* I'll just be using it on road *ducks again* at first, though living in Scotland I'm sure I can find a puddle and a hill if I really try!

That's the cleanest 97 I've seen. Nice low mileage find.

Welcome

Looks clean, but that sideflow exhaust has got to go if you plan on taking it off road at all. Welcome.

SWEET!! I have some friends into RC that would drool over that thing. Is it geared really low or too fast for it's own good like most RC trucks?

Flat out it does about 5mph - it uses independent front and rear lathe motors, locked diffs and 4 wheel steer. The engineering is a work of art. I've got the usual nitro and petrol RC cars too, though none are quite as groovy as the Jeep.

Anyone able to offer any help on the tonneau question, or should I wait and post pictures once I've got it?

Thanks again all.

is it a tonneau cover or a bikini top? the bikini top is for the top to block the sun and rain, and the tonneau cover the rear when the seat is folded down or removed.
