My custom rear bumper (pics)

I built a custom rear bumper inspired by BESRK plans (without the tire carrier) and I tought I could post some pics. I know I talked about it and asked questions a long time ago about it, but I don't have a digital camera so I didn't have pics before today.

Tell me what you think

I had a great time building it, learned to weld also.

I had it powdercoated for 60$ (CAD) at a local shop.

I bought the hitch plug at the dealership.

Do you have some sort of frame tie in kit in there, I can't tell from the pictures but you shouldn't use those shackle mounts as recovery points unless that bumper is tied to the frame of the Jeep. That rear cross member that it's bolted to is thin and weak, all recovery points really need to be tied to the frame in some way. Are the shackle tabs welded front and back?

Looks good. I wish I had built my own bumpers, but I didn't have a welder or a saw then. Oh well.

Yeah the guy I took the design from is really a master fabricator... I know I would buy stuff from him if I was in the same country.

No tie-ins, for the moment it is only bolted to the crossmember. I will fab and install tie-ins later.

Yess the tabs are welded front and back, like the hitch receiver.

I don't have a welder or a saw, I used the tools at my friend's shop. He really helped me alot on that project. His name is Sebastien Belanger and I will try to get him to register on the forum here, he got a computer and hi-speed internet 2 weeks ago. He will like this place.

I'll build a front bumper also, not now but maybe this winter. I am not sure of the design yet.

Looks real good, however I noticed you don't have any spots to hook the safety chains when towing. Don't tow without safety chains. Also if you plan to recover vehicles with it I highly recommend buying frame tie ins. The stock cross member is paper thin and will bend.

TKHFab frame tie-ins are $15 shipped. You can't make them that cheap.

You can not see it in the picture but I welded a flatbar with 2 holes in it at the back of the bumper behind the hitch receiver for safety chains.

I just contacted rockmen for the shipping on a set of frame tie-ins. While on their site I saw a windshield decal that I think looks cool, I always wanted a windshield decal but never found one I liked enough, what do you guys think about that :

I agree they are cheap... but they do not look as good

I know they are "just some frame tie-ins" but the ones by Rokmen looks like I could hang my jeep from them!

TKHFab :

Rokmen :

I'll wait for the shipping quote.
