My (cheap) Jeep Build up.Lifted Pics added
Thought i might wanna start a thread and document my build...
1997 jeep wrangler sport.. first day I got it.. Price $1300.00 ![]() Had to get tires and wheels! gambler rims and 31x10.5 tires $180.00 ![]() I had to replace the back glass on the hard top.. and hardware spent like $300.. I bought a front brush guard for $50.00 and built a new front bumper.. Free. dont have any pics of this yet.. looks like crap paint didnt stick to well was cold and such i just wanted to get a coat on so it would not rust horriable.. so far thats how the jeep sits.. Parts waiting to be installed 33x12.5 BFG MT's $125 for all four four 1.5" wheel spacers $100 4" complete used superlift shocks/adj track bar. springs/ $300 Best top Rear Tire carrier $40 Still needing to get new axles.. so I am looking I have to do this AS CHEAP as I can.. I am very very broke but seem to somehow find a little money here and there for the jeep.. since its addicting and love dumping money into it!! so thats it for now.. I will hopefully be finding some axles soon and then will swap those in and the lift and tires all at once...

Nice Jeep for $1300 bux!! How did you manage that kind of deal? Congratulations.....now, you will never have any extra money....your Jeep will take it! At least you get to decide what part of the Jeep will get the money first!

ya was a steal.. a friend of mine had it.. he bought it really cheap from his father in law.. but then it had DW.. ran like crap.. turned out.. had a bad distributor cap.. had DW cause the right front tire was loose.. and he didnt wanna mess with it anymore... funny thing.. after off roading with me a few times.. he traded his 2001 accord for a 93YJ with 4" lift and 33's.. so he has a jeep again! so now we off road together!!..

well have not gotten much done due to axle situation.. I had an awesome set lined up but they got sold.. so now not sure what i wanna do. I have like 1000 to spend but thats gotta cover front and rear.. I was thinking since i am only going to run 33's for a while that i would look for a set of 4.10's stock d30 and d35 (unless i find a nice HPd30 with 4.10s) they should hold up to the 33's DD for a while and mild off roading for a while.. untill i upgrade later.. just trying to think of what to do. any thoughts would be great!!!!

Well.. for axles I am going with a D44 rear out of a 02 sahara, with 3.73 gears, I also found a front d30 with 3.73's out of a 98 with out shafts for $40..
D44- $300 Plus trade for a D35 with 3.73's ( trading a friend who has a jeep, never offroads and needs money) D35- to replace his D44 $150.00 D30- Front to replace my d30 and match with 3.73 gears $40 So seems like a pretty cheap jeep axle upgrade.. I will run 3.73's for a while.. I have 3.07's now with 31's according to the gear calculators i have seen 3.73's with 33's will be feel better ratio wise than the current setup.. so that is good. Just gotta get all the axles ready so I can swap my friend his D44 then i can take a weekend and get everything in my jeep at one time.. |

Well hopefully going to pick up the 3.73 d30/35 tomorrow so that on saturday i can swap the 35 for the 44. then start with my lift. have a buddy coming to help..so should go pretty quick... depending on what bolts break.lol.
also on a good note I was trying to figure out what speedo gear to use.. 31 tooth.. so got to checking and my jeep stock came with 3.07's and 27" tires.. therefore factory came with the 31 tooth speedo gear! YEA 3.73's and 33's will put it back to stock! how cool did that work out.. anyway I am excited and will be for sure take pics as long as everything goes well.. only issue is they are calling for 3-6" of snow sat and I plow so might take some of my jeep time away.. OH and i stripped all the clear coating off my gambler rims.. cleaned them up.. primed them with etching primer.. now i have ot figure out what color to paint them so i can mount the tires.. then i have to take them to a place to get balanced cause my normal placed is closed for a little.. worst comes to worse i can run the 31's untill i get the wheels and tires on the 33's finished |

well for the most part things went well... swaped out the D44 for the D35 in a few hours.. went well.. got my axles out.. with only a few broken parts.. upper shock bolts onthe rear, one front control arm cam bolt.. and other little things.. then got snow and had to call it quits..
so jeep is still on the rack... just got the new control arm cam bolt today so after that goes in i should be able to set toe and adjust the track bar and a few other little things.. let her down and take it for a spin and see what else needs to be fixed.. I think the shocks i have are too short.. they are 23" fully exteneded in the rear and when the jeep was sitting on its own weight i had to really work to get the shock long enough to fit in the mount.. so maybe the PO ordered the wrong size ?? no idea but they should still work just going to limit the drop of the axles.. but we will see once things settle all in .. |
