*** MERRY CHRISTMAS ***
My wife paid attention this year as always and purchased some stuff for my jeep as Christmas presents. I got a mastercraft bag for the truck space that straps in (good for all the trail tools), clips that hold my MagLight in front of the driver's seat and KC slimlites with brackets for the windshield. I spent the morning mounting the lights, but will wait to mount the other brackets until I Herculine the interior next week.

I ran a snake through the dash from the top to pull the wiring for each light seperately through to the windshield bracket. I will check later for leaks with a garden hose.

Once I finished the project looked pretty good. Now I just need to order a new front bumper and some KC Rally Lights as driving lights.

I know you went black wall out on the tires, but every new MTR I've seen mounted has the larger tread gaps on the outside and not the inside. This would require white wall out...does anyone know if it makes a difference?

What are you going to do about the axles with those 35s?

My tires are 35" that come with only black sidewalls. If you are purchasing the smaller tires I am not sure how you can get them without the white lettering. Maybe if you wait they will come out with MTRs without the white, but I doubt it since it is good advertising for the company.

I am still depating the axles. I was thinking of pulling an HP axle out of a cherokee and rebuilding it with OX lockers. For now I dont do any off-roading, only flat highway (florida keys = max elevation 20 so FT on a bridge), so I have not changed the gearing either. Come April, depending on the money situation I will either purchase a custom D44 axle (Currie) with chromly axles and regear, or go with the HP and rebuild with chromly axles on both front and rear and OX lockers on both. It really depends on where I get stationed next summer with the Coast Guard. I know I atleast have to do the brakes, and strengthen the axles.

So why are they mounted backwards compared to all the other new MTR's I've seen? Like these:

I see what you are saying. Now that I am back at home I took a look at them and the tires are in fact labled on both sides (inboard and outboard). I had them mounted at a shop before I left on deployment and assumed they did it correct since I paid them $125, I guess I will be headed back to the shop to ask some questions.
I have only put about 250 miles on them now and it has all been highway. Now I will have to get them remounted and balanced again... not on my dime.

The correct way to mount them is with the all-terrain tread on the inside and the thick knobby off-road terrain on the outside. And I verified they are labeled on the tires (right next to the max PSI and size). And... in fact my tires are not mounted correctly.

The lights on the bumper are 6" Hella driving lights (55W I believe). I have a third as well that was mounted on the rear bumper when I purchased the Jeep. Planning on taking these off and selling them next week once my KC 8" Rally lights come in. They should be a little brighter as well since I will move up to 130W.

Before

After Here is my setup after adjusting the alighnment of each of the lights.
SHOULD LIGHT UP BOTH THE BEACH AND THE TRAIL NICELY!

OR FAB tire carrier ordered and it should be here Tuesday. Starting to prepare for the install tomorrow by spraying all the bolts with PB Blaster and maybe even breaking a few lose. I'll have pictures up by Wednesday of the install... finally getting my full size spare back!

Just to comment on the above posts about the tires. I run 33" MTRs with white wall out. I originally wanted black wall out but got a call from the shop saying they were directional tread only and white wall had to be mounted out, I called bulls*** but they insisted so I went with they're call. Once I got them back I read on the sidewall that the white wall should be mounted out. I've been running them now for about 5 months and they have been great...wear in general, on-road performance, clearing abilities, etc. After reading around different sites with people running these tires, alot of people run black walls out and "say" they clear mud and dirt just as well as mounted the other way. So really I dont think that its that big of deal which way they are mounted, seeing as that I've seen some serious jeep setups with these meats on them running black out. PS I think your front tires are mounted reversed of each other, so yeah I would take that back to the shop that did that and ask for it to be done right, and for free of course, BOOM.

Ok... the tires are mounted wrong... it is printed right on the tire which side is out. They also are not directional tires; they are however asymmetrical (meaning the inside is different from the outside). Also offroad they will drive differently if you are using them to climb. The outside of the tire is built with knobby tread to help grip as opposed to the inside which is built with the all-terrain tread that helps the street driving and helps with traction.

Tires will be remounted/balanced on Wednesday at the shops expense. The owner was very appoligetic, but understands how his mechanics did it because they are not used to mounting asymetric tires... what i dont understand is on such a specific type of tire, that was obviously different (because he mounted them all the same) wouldn't you call if you had a question on which way to mount or maybe look online at the GOODYEAR website.
