my 99 auto thunks, loudly!
i may need to give a little back story on this jeep. and i apologise for what must seem like a very off topic backstory before i ask for help with the current problem!
i bought it with 128,000 milrs in 06. it was the first vehicle i ever purchased. i was 19 and just stoked to own a jeep, a 4.0 sahara no less! once the puppy love wore off i started to notice things. like paint that didnt match. because underneath it were the original shades of red, white and mettalic lime green (on differant body parts of course) and atub full of (cracking) bondo. i did some research on the title and was told it was clean. no wrecks. so why then are my hood and fenders repro and not mopar? so i took it to a local shop. who promptly slid under my jeep...and promptly slid out. what he was able to tell me from walking around and a quick peek in and under was that my jeep had definately sat for a while, incomplete(wrecked probably rolled), in a yard somewhere. and that somebody probably peiced it together and threw on some paint(now roting) to make a quick buck (wranglers even beat ones went for a premium in the wasatch front of utah in 06.heck i had to pay 9.5 for mine!) so since i bought it 2 years ago, rather than do fun stuff like lifts or intakes or a custom top. i have been fixing it. all the while paying a loan on it! and i understand or am currently fixing all the other problems. but trannies are like string theory to me (actually i understand string theory a bit better!) when ever i shift, i get a loud thunk i can hear and feel over my stereo.(one of the few upgrades i was forced to make. after a melted AC fan switch damaged a chunk of my dash!) the fluid is topped off, looks clean, and never leaks! is this "thunking" a legitamite problem, or am i just being an id'jit noob troll? PS my mileage is horrible and my acceleration not good (even for a jeep auto!)

could be drive shaft universals or an error code from the computer to the tranny my uncle just got his tranny redone. ( cost like 2000.00) and it still wasnt fixed and it was just a stupid error code that he got reset

What he said, lol. If your acceleration and MPG is suffering though, it is most likely something dealing with the transmission. Could be the TC, clutch packs, etc.
Check the codes first.
