My 5.2 V8 Swap
So I've been working on this for the past 3 days. I'll hopefully have it done tomorrow. Here's pics of everything so far. It's a 1998 TJ sport. Installing a 5.2 318 from a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. Used advanced adapters engine mounts, advanced adapters xfer case linkage, backwoods headers, modified TJ transmission mount w/ dodge mount welded to it, electric fan, backwoods supplied radiator, wiriing done by me and my friend shawn, all the welding and fabrication done by my friend shawn.
Here's the pics:

Going to bed now... I'll probably be tied up working on this all day tomorrow. I've got the xfer case linkage, transmission shifter, the wiring, and to put the front clip back on and connect the radiator left to do.
I'll see you guys when i'm fininshed! -Paul |

It was either '01 or '02 when they stopped putting the 5.2 in Dodge Rams.
'98 was the last year for the 5.2 in a Grand Cherokee. The 4.7 was the replacement for both.

Btw... The 4.0L that got pulled out is for sale. Anyone interested? It has 183k on it. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, CPS, Cam PS, Coil, TPS, O2 sensors. It'll come w/ a B&M short shifter since i'm about to cut off the shifter from the ax15, because they didn't give me a shifter w/ the 5.2.

A few more pics of a janky exhaust to get me by to the exhaust shop... and the wiring done enough to fire it up and make sure all is good before i get it all loomed up and in place permenantly. I still need to fab up a shifter, put the front clip back on, install the radiator, install the electric fan and attach a few grounds and its ready to go.
I was really suprised that the wiring wasn't really that bad to do. There was a lot of hunting through schematics, but it was basically wire for wire, just different colors. Whatever you hacked from the 4.0 harness had a wire from the 5.2 harness waiting to be connected to it. I can definitely see why Evan @ Backwoods charges 700 to do it. It is a lot of work... But not that bad. Hopefully finish is up tonight after i get off of work. Hopefully.... Last edited by Zew; 10-15-2008 at 09:33 AM.. |
