I'll take some more pics tomorrow. Right now it's not mounted to anything. The rubber horn is really the best part of this thing. Keep in mind that I am not "running" just yet. I'm still a few weeks away on my restore which explains why I'm not in a big hurry. You'll notice in the picture that there is no radiator or battery installed. No need for them to be in my way just yet.
Anyway, I plan on coming in from the firewall with a simple strap of some sort that will cradle the housing. I pulled the horn from inside the cowl until it is SUPER snug and it is pretty solid. This housing is not as heavy as it looks. While I do plan to support it in some manner, the end of the horn is belled out so it will never come out of the cowl unless you make your firewall hole larger. Like I said, I'll snap some more pics soon and we can all tweak this thing together. BTW, I tossed the old Fram Air Hog (K&N type) filter I ran back in 04 and replaced it with an OEM style Wix filter for $19.

Bracket
I think when its all said and done, I will use a bracket similar to the one used in the Buick Airbox write-up. I'll get to that in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, be my guest to improve upon my simple design!

update
I've been running as a daily driver since July and have not made or needed any sort of bracket. I removed it in August and really had to pull on the rubber horn to get it out of the firewall. I've been very impressed with it.

did you remove it perminently? Does the jeep run any smoother, or does it idle any better since its not breathing hot air?

Sorry, I should have elaborated. I removed it to get it out of my way so I could get to the nuts on the firewall that hold the HVAC box. I put it back after I reinstalled the dash. No you don't have to do that but it is easier.
As for part 2 of your question: I have never run this TJ in any other manner that the current build so I don't know. I did this because I desired true cold air and had the Mustang cannister sitting around. Also, I did this because I increased displacement (see my signature line for engine info). I doubt this would do anything for a stock motor. I am not stock.

Update #2 - Questions Answered
At the 1 year mark, I've decided it has to be time to change the air filter. Oddly enough, within a week of each other, two folks PM'd me asking how the setup was doing and was I sucking water through the cowl with my configuration. Since the Jeep is still running VERY strong, if I'm sucking water, it's obviously not enough to cause problems.
I took a very good look at my setup from above, through the cowl and found that I should be getting some moisture. If you've never been to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, I can assure you that we have as much or more "sideways" rain as anywhere else in the country. Recently we've had alot of rain so I figure there should be some evidence on the element. I changed the filter tonight and did find a very small stain that appears to be from water. It is roughly a 1" area at the very lowest point of the element. I should also note that the element is a yellowish tint compared to the pretty white color of a new one. I'll be adding one of those acrylic cowl induction style hood scoops to remedy any possible moisture issues. I really feel like that would be pretty good insurance. I will also re-check the element after a few hard rains and after the cowl scoop install. Also, I was really surprised that there was NOT more "big" junk trapped in the element. I also would have thought that there would have been an asspile of sand in there since I drive the beachroad back and forth to work every day (usually go home for lunch too - so that's 4 daily trips). There really wasn't much of anything in there, probably about 1/3 of what I expected to see (compared to our other vehicles). Apparently the cowl sucks less trash than the lower areas. ![]()

Thanks for the update, was curious how this has been working. Glad to hear water/moisture issues are of little concern. Soon as parts show up, I'll be working on mine-though thanks to another version, I have a great big hole in my cowl cover. After a bunch of work up in that area for other reasons, I too was surprised at the relatively minimal amount of stuff (garbage) up there. I may end up having to weld my plate back in, or find a new cowl cover all together if this works well. Thanks again for the update!
Best of Luck, Mike |

Thanks for the update! As soon as we replace the camera that the baby thought was her's I'll post mine in a thread! I'm really liking the way it's coming! Found a place on ebay to get thin wall aluminum pipe! Cheap and cleans up well! For that polished look! LOL.

Update #3
As I planned above, I finally added the plastic hood scoop/cowl induction piece by the end of summer. I turned mine toward the windshield (cowl induction method). Performance has not suffered and there is no moisture issue. Actually, I can hear my air intake (with windows down) a little better and that's just fine with an old gearhead like me!
![]() So, in summary, if you install any type of a CAI such as this, I would go with a scoop for moisture protection. I opted for the Bushwacker even though it was a little more pricey due to the style of it. It appears to allow the most airflow versus the cheaper ones. Thanks for your interest

Thanks again for your intial help with this. I've also been very happy with my setup-enough so that I think I will actually remove the factory stuff for good. I've been running it with the cowl scoop since the beginning and have been in many HEAVY rains for extended times, along with heavy snow. No issues at all with water to date. Works very well.
Thanks again! Best of Luck, Mike |

Measurements
I was recently asked to measure both length and circumference of the cannister. It is 10" long and 25" around.
