Do you think the padding is thicker on a 06 than it would be on 99?
Should I just tighten the clamps first without the jack just to pre fit the area where I'm going to mount it?

I'll work on it tomorrow with more dedication, it was a busy week at work!

Thanks

Yep the padding is thicker, it is also styrofoam instead of soft foam. I tried to use bigger clamps around the padding but it just looked funny so I uncovered the roll bar and cut away the styrofoam where the clamp goes and just put the studs sticking out through the fabric. You can see in the picture at the top of page 2. The other thing that I did that may help is I mounted the clamps on the rollbar with the normal nuts that come with them, then put the jack on the studs that stick out and then add the wing nuts. that way when I take the jack down to use I dont have to mess with the clamps falling off the roll bars.

I purchased the roll bar mount kit that HiLift had made once and for 78.00 dollars it was defintely worth the money for the convenience of not having to deal with u-bolts. The kits are a little hard to find now but just do a google search and you may find one out there. This kit mounts directly to the metal and not over the padding.
