motor noise? with video for sound
my 4cyl motor has been makinga ticking sound for almost a year now (the motor is new just replaced last feb) has less then 40k on it,
details of noise, some times it ticks sometimes it knocks, sometime it makes no noise at all, temp makes no difference, goes up with RPM, sounds like coming from #1 cylinder, no cooling fluid leak, no metal shavings in any fluids, i removed the belt and noise is still there
video

As dumb as this may sound.....try swapping the waterpump!
My 97 made a tick/knock/ping like that for about a year as well after I did a engine swap. Then the waterpump started leaking from the weep hole, so naturally I changed it out. VIOLA the ticking was/is GONE!

Possibly a loose rocker? I would put a tube up to your ear and use it like a stethoscope to isolate the source.

Is the four cylinder is engine chain driven like the six? If so you can try removing the drive belt and seeing if it still makes the noise. That would reveal if the noise is from something that is driven by the belt including the water pump as suggested above.

if i understand you correctly your saying remove the drive belt, and thus narrowing down if its motor or an external accessory like water pump?

Got it in one! Obviously you will loose power steering so if you drive enter corners slowly, and cooling so don't run it for too long.

Well, it sounded like an exhaust leak to me. Not good sound though.

there is a small exhaust leak but that would cause the knocking like that would it?

If the 2.5 has a timing CHAIN that could be it... I streached a timing chain on my 4.2 several years ago and made a simular noise.
When you listen for the noise in a wrench or crowbar, can you narrow it down to the Valve Cover, Head, Block, or Oil pan?
