Mods to make a tj more comfortable long distance?

Just wondering what people have done to their TJ to make em more comfortable. Mine is my DD, which never bothered me until now that I am doing IT consulting and constantly driving. I have even considered getting a ZJ, but I dont think its in the cards... so what can I do to make this thing a little more tollerable?

If you want to make your TJ more comfortable drive a YJ for a week and then go back to your TJ.

Make sure you have a good quality shock for one thing. Another thing is making sure your tires are aired properly. When the tire shop mounted my 32s, they aired them to 50 psi. I got home and aired them to 30 psi and the ride is like night and day.

I can ride all day in my Jeep and not want to get out of it... maybe it has to be "for you" in order to really appreciate long rides.

I have done a lot of long distance driving in my TJ and it seems like a bit more lumbar support would greatly increase the comfort level.

It would help for us to know what you find intolerable about it.

I had the same issue with 50lbs of air in my new MTR's after Goodyear did the install. Felt like I was driving on rocks. Got home from the dealer and checked, laughed a bit, then aired down to 30psi as well.

Major difference.

If soft top noise is problem, make sure to run the fan on your jeep.Keeps the top "inflated" and it will be less prone to make noise.

Good quality stereo and speakers help(Just saw that you have this!).Cell phone headset, so ya can shift and talk,GPS...beacuse they are cool.

Oh yeah, Hot Jeep Chick riding shotgun will make any trip more enjoyable.

Try mastercraft rubicon suspension seats. They are the type of seats that Baja racers use. Try quadratec.com
Also what about an armrest on the door. I have hard doors and that is the most uncomfortable thing about it.

I made some seat spacers from 2"X2"X3/16ths steel tubing, spacing the seat up 2" and to the rear by 2" to better fit my size. I also added a dummy pedal I fabbed from steel and put up against the left side of the footwell, to put the left foot at the same distance as the right foot when cruising.

I added additional soundproofing - just look at an Unlimited on a dealer lot, and then screw the same size and thickness fiberboard panels to the floor sheetmetal from underneath, after painting with exterior paint. Still to do: a layer of insulation between the transmission tunnel and carpet. I discovered this Summer that in 100+ degrees a lot of heat leaks through and it's uncomfortable when cruising.

Speaking of cruising, if you do not have the Mopar cruise control, buy the parts and add it yourself, it's worth it.

When you lift your Jeep, don't use anything except OME, which can be had in 2.5" and 4" lift springs for shortarms. The combo of OME springs and shocks is more comfortable than a stock suspension, and real flexy.

Only thing about the Rubicon Mastercraft seats is that they are to quote Quadratec's catalog "Not intended for street use." As much as I would like a pair in my TJ, I'll wait on that. Believe that's the ones you're talking about anyway...
Oy! kaiserjeep, what all exactly have you soundproofed in it? I'm thinking about the same thing for my TJ. Do you have any pics or ideas? What material(s) did you use?

Foam ear plugs. I have a whole sack of 'em for when I drive long distances. The first time I used them for a long trip, I was amazed I could actually HEAR after arriving at my destination.

If you only have a soft top and are on the highway alot, go buy a pair of these and an mp3 player

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6825297&type=product&productCate goryId=cat08352&id=1091101528169

cuts out 90% of the outside noise even with the top off.

something for the lower back always helps, but I usually only break that out for the long road trips.

Well the stereo was the first thing I upgraded, and I went all out, so im pretty much all set on the music front.

If his Jeep isn't prewired then he may not want to go this route. Wiring it into the computer and under the dash can be tedious... took me 4 hours taking my time.
