Planning on the RE 3.5 (probly) and 33's. This is my daily driver and I think that 33's and the 4:10's will be OK. Not perfect for off road, but OK. That was my main reason for buying a Rubicon, the ratio, lockers and low tranny case.

TrueFlow, Amsoil versus K&N

Since I can't run that type of filter, I now run a TrueFlow air filter... which while much better than a K&N, is still not as good as a traditional paper element air filter.
Jerry,

Are you talking about the TrueFlow foam filter that you spray?

What about the new Amsoil Ea air filters, which appear to be better than regular filters and far better than oiled filters, but without oiling? I know Amsoil did have foam, but it appears they're going this other route now.

Thoughts?

You're right, they do look cool, it's just that I never got around to figuring a better way to latch them. I used the included latch replacements that were supposed to attach to the tub for mirror brackets on the front up tube, rather than what they were for. Doing it their way, you had to flip the latches back and forth for full doors. I cut down some 4" 3/8 bolts to drop in to secure in the holes because the latch pins wouldn't fit and this worked fine til they squeaked like heck on the trails and by then I figured I wasn't going to fall out.

2004 rugged ridge? Mirror Movers - sucked. came with the wrong bolts. way too shaky going even 25mph. Pepboys $15 DIY mirrors were 10 times better.

Rubicon Express BB shocks - really stiff for my daily driver but OK off road. I shoulda just ponied up for OME kit w/ springs.

Rampage double-tube front bumper off ebay. The gloss black faded to grey after a week in the sun. 1st Box came half-destroyed with broken end caps and bent frame, the next one they sent wasn't much better.

2 piece Bestop Hardtop. Got on sale for $1500 but the 2 piece design makes it difficult to adjust and fit. it was very loose and the hardware supplied was really cheap. Had to fiddle with the cockpit cover over and over so it wouldn't leak. Just way too much to pay for a high maintainance hard top. Should have just got the 1 piece (which cost more at the time) and saved a LOT of hassle.

*not spraying PB blaster on stubborn rusted tire lug and top rear shock requiring modding the tire lug nut stud with a BFH/chisel and finally a cutoff wheel and boring out a larger hole, tapping a new thread and getting a new bolt for the upper rear shock mount. OOPS indeed, but hey, It's my first vehicle/Jeep and I didn't know squat about automobiles.

used set of rubicon express sway bar disconnects (1st generation), took perfect flat ground to put them back on with my son jumping up and down on the bumper.

pro comp 2 inch lift with es3000 shocks (first lift), shocks sucked.

k&n filter, 50 bucks for dust, what a concept.

mirror relocator, drivers side is fine but the passenger side is worthless, can't see the freaken mirror with the doors back on.

I love my jeep, but after reading a couple remarks I am sorry I didn't hold out for an LJ. I figure this will be my "learning" jeep and in a while I'll sell it for a bone stock '06 LJ and start over

K&N air filter
Jerry - I just cleaned and re-oiled my K&N...I thought I was doing the "right" thing by installing one to begin with (stock air box, just the K&N filter). I see no dust, film or anything at all beneath the filter...you can eat off the darn thing. I'm not arguing here and I WILL be replacing it, but it "seems" to be doing a good job. Are the particulates that it's letting by microsopic and undetectable to the naked eye or what? FWIW, I usually clean and oil the damn thing every two oil changes...if that means anything.

Re BB shocks and now SkyJacker Hydro shocks, oh and my rusty skyjacker steering shock.

Is there really ANY good shocks out there?

A Top Five rack. Good product, but very expensive and the customer service stinks. I'm not even sure if I can purchase the basket or light bar for it - because that portion of the web page is always under construction or "the product will be available in the Spring". Should have bought a Congo Cage for 1/2 the price.

Powertrax locker for the rear axle.

all that popping and clicking and jiggling.

There are so many other things I wish I didn't buy, not because they were inferior, but because I didn't have a clear ending point in mind when I began my Jeep journey. I still don't. My only defense is that this is my first Wrangler.

We should offer counseling for first time Jeep owners (I guess we do, in a way).

- Plastic hard case and a soft cover for my Hi-lift jack. Not practical to use and just waste of money.

- Draw-Tite trailer hitch -- should've bought a rear bumper with a built-in hitch receiver.
