Might buy a tj today

Know little about them only had cj's
this one has manual trans, is that unusual? i think it's a 5 speed not sure, whatever was stock.
it's a 98 sahara. 39000 miles. clean, probably never offroaded. if it has i couldn't tell by looking under it.
was sahara the better model?

Yes 5 speeds are normal, and lots of fun. The Sahara was a trim package with a different color seat and interior (maybe). It also comes with the premium sound package too I believe. Sounds like a good low-mileage deal. Go for it!

Manual trannys are very common on TJs... if it is in great condition and no major repairs, go for it

If you are going to wheel it you might want to check and see if it has a Dana 44 differential. I don't know if that's important to you but better to figure it out before you lay out the cash.

Sounds like a nice deal. How much are they asking?

'98 Saharas are the best IMO! Of course, I might be a little biased! That's awesome mileage for a '98. Good job!

Well, you're half right.

Most do, but it was still an option just like it is today on any TJ except the Rubicon and Unlimited (and some of the special edition Wranglers).

I would be suspicious of the low mileage! Is this from a dealer?
Ask to see the title before you sign anything.
Twice now I have looked a low mileage Jeeps (I'm always looking)
Both had low miles and a title with the "not the correct mileage box checked"
What I think their doing is swapping out the dash board with a low mileage dash.

I still want to know how much they are asking for it. The low mileage wouldn't scare me but I'd have it checked out thoroughly and carfax it. Sometimes a vehicle just isn't driven all that much, hence the low mileage. That makes for a good deal. My 2 year old Honda has 14k miles on it simply because it isn't a primary driver and doesn't go on long trips.

One thing you have to be careful with these days is vehicles that were flood damaged (a lot of those around) that have been "reconditioned", retitled and then sold to unsuspecting buyers.
