i have to admit, i am still a little suspicious of the statement that these are made for you. that unused grommet in the middle of the back is screaming 'tarp'. i give you credit for ingenuity on the use, but if it were truely made 'for' your company, then why have that grommet placed in there? and also, why not use black grommets instead of tarp-standard brass so that it looks more custom designed/made than off the shelf?

I wonder how SUSPICIOUS you think bMan would be???

I am trying.
No worries, I'm not anxious. Just curious like many other people here.

I'm suspicious because your product looks identical to other tarps. Your current business in no way reflects this new one as far as I can tell (auto detailing?).

Can you give us details of the changes being made? Anything at all. All I see on the website is 'coming soon'.

I just see something that looks like people could buy anywhere, marketed as the world's greatest jeep top when it doesn't fit correctly. The lack of a custom fit and the fact that it resembles a typical tarp doesn't say 'custom made' to me. I find these black mesh tarps with brass grommets all over the web. So is this "I don't want to fix it", or, "this isn't really made by me, just repacked and therefore I can't change it". I don't know honestly.

None of this applies to the top from the first page, except maybe the grommets. I don't know why you aren't just producing that one...???

But if I started selling something that looked nearly identical to what someone could pick up at a garden supply/green house supply store or website, wouldn't you be a little suspicious if I were actually designing and making a product vs. just selling something that's already available?'

It's your business and you do what you want with it. I don't know you well enough to know whether or not you are an honest business person, or someone who found an easy way to market something anyone could buy and make a little money off of the rest of us. I don't know specifics of what you've done.

It's just one of those "looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck" type of thing. And I'm not the only one to point it out.

Just explain your reasoning.

That middle grommet is used in a few of the many configuration options. I like the idea of the black grommets.

I ordered it

Well I just broke down and ordered the top.

Called Spiderweb... talk/BS to Chris, for about 15 minutes about the top, weather, jeeps, ect. Thanked me for my service in Iraq...no strings attached and was sincere...rare these days. No I didn't get any discount and no he didn't tell me to write this post.

Not a bad guy and got great customer service from him IMO. Placed the order and came in two days later not bad. Sent priority mail, not bad. He could save some money sending it slower, but I'm not complaining.

Came home from work, ...Hurlburt Fld, Fl...bored went to JeepForum and not again...another post about this top.

Jump back into in my jeep ... and took my top to lowes and home depot guess what... their sun shades and tarps were not the same as what I receive from SPIDERWEB.

Maybe they were out of the right ones (SPIDERWEB), or maybe they were hidden in the back of the warehouse and I didn't know the code word to get past security?? I asked the salesman, do you sell these, did you ever or can you get them? Answer: no

Same answer from both stores, I must admit they did give me some strange looks

Here are the facts as a customer who receive their product.

Are the grommets brass...yes...don't care.

Could I go online and find a sun screen, zip ties and bungee balls/cords and save $30...yes

Would I know what I'm getting from a eBay vendor...no

Could I return it, if not happy...maybe? Would it be worth it, cost of mailing and restocking fees. Maybe? Lose money on the deal. Yes

The people asking all these questions do they own the top? No

Last statement: When ordering through a vendor guess what, he needs to make a living too. If a product is price reasonably, the customer will be happy (I am) and the vendor will make a profit and he's happy. We complain about vendors not making things we need or want. Guess what, he did, made a website, made a demo film and is answering a lot of e-mails very professional IMO. Take the chance buy one, install it, drive around and see if you like it. You must drive around to get the effect, less wind and you don't have to yell at your rear seat passengers. If you don't like it... ask for your money back. Just my two cents as someone who has the top and tried... but failed to find the secret SPIDERWEB store. SKI

I just made my order but I could not find a place to mention jeep forum for the rebate... Did i do something wrong with google checkout????

By the way I think this top is going to do great. Did you say that you are going to come out with some sort of padding material to help insulate the top when you have the hard top on? If so when will this be available because it has been over 100 here the past 2 weeks.

I've been holding out for SW3, honestly. But with a $10 rebate, that's not a bad deal at all.

Is there any word on when the SW3 will be ready for production? I'd hate to buy a v1 and then want a v3 later.

Will the SW2 or SW3 work ok with an overhead console??? From the pictures on Spiderwebs' site, it looks like it should work fine, but just wanted to verify. T.I.A.

I don't see why? It might not cover the whole back seat with shade. It shouldn't take up too much length overall, but I could be wrong.

The problem is where does it attach to. The one from Bestop has provisions for this but I have not seen this on the more expensive SW products.

My boss sent me to a awning shop near us, and inside they had samples of the same material as the spiderweb mesh. I chatted with them a bit, and when I mentioned the top, one of the techs owns one. He told me that the only difference between SpiderWebs and the ones he could make, is he wouldn't get paid to make them...

He loves it the one he has, but is making his own out of red sun mesh... I might get the hand me down.
Spiderweb tops are great for those who want to buy them straight out. I, on the other hand, get more out of engineering my own. No offense, Spiderweb.

I have the plans drawn up for a 4 piece top. Between the front roll bars, down the back roll bars, and both side windows... I might also make my own windbreaker.

This won't stop me from recommending you to others though...so don't worry.

Haha, you would call cutting a pieced of fabric to size, hemming the edges and pressing in some grommets, engineering. I guess the U.S. had a lot more engineers back when our grandmothers would sew their own clothes.

I have been watching this tread all summer also have made my decision to buy the sunscreen currently on sale.
I have one question for the owners of this fine top.
For those who have been caught out in the rain with this top, I know this is just a screen and not waterproof, is the rain just pouring strait thru it or is it being deflected a bit?
Lately I have caught driving thru some torrential downpours.
