The SW2 and SW3 are coming, I promise!

Thank all of you for your feedback. I am really glad to hear from those of you who actually have the SpiderWeb Tops. The SW2 and the SW3 are on the way, we have been running the prototypes for about a month now with NO problems! As soon as I am sure these new products will be as durable as the SW1 we will begin selling, trust me I want to sell them. I think we will have some of the SW2s available this week.

Got the VDP Koolbreez brief top and installed it. First let me tell you, no instructions. I thought that was a mistake but no, that's the way they ship. The reason I'm returning it is because it's not compatible with my TJ. I have the soundbar from the factory and the straps go right in the middle where the speakers are. Sure, I can take the speakers off and put it on but if I have to take an hour to take this thing off and on then it's of no value to me. It's a far better looking product than the Spiderweb. It's not made of tarp material, it's a quality mesh and the straps are not as noticble as brass grommets. What would have made it perfect is if it used velcro, then you can put it on and take it off a lot quicker.

I checked with Bestop and their mesh bikini top looks much better made than the Koolbreez, for examples it has a channel like the factory top that slips into the door window channel for a nice tight clean look above the door (the Koolbreeze does not) and it has instructions for people with the soundbar. I've decided to go with 4wheelparts.com for the item since they ship free and they are local (So Cal) so I'll get it tomorrow or wednesday.

So how many have you made so far?
I have followed this thread from it's inception, and yes I purchased the SW2 about a month ago.
Yes, it's the same material used for "tarps" as some call it.
Yes, it has grommets.
Yes, it uses bungee balls to secure it.
So, if it's so easy to manufacture and improve- Why the heck haven't any of you done it?
If you don't like the man's product, fine, don't purchase it. Leave it be.
I for one couldn't be happier with mine. It does what it's supposed to do-
Goes on easy, keeps the Texas sun from scorching me, yet still lets the breeze in. We drive Jeeps, not some fancy little sports car, so if the lines don't match the roll bar, so what.
I have had several Jeepers ask me where I purchased this, and I gladly pointed them to the website. In my opinion, it was worth the $60 I spent.
OK- I'm done ranting.
I am in aircraft upholstery. I haven't made mine yet, but you can bet it will be built just as well, if not better than the SW2. I have the materials in my shop as we speak.

What he has deivered is a good, functional product. Not to everyone's tastes (as you can see in the length of this thread)

Before I considered buying the SW2, I thought about going down to HF and picking up the materials and doing it myself. Then I asked myself, "Why would I do that?" IMO, it would be a big hassle.

I can't speak for Chris, but I think he appreciates the constructive feedback. That is why he is prototyping SW3. The suggestions are great and Chris is taking them and trying to make a better product. He has a good product and provides good service? Support your fellow Jeeper.
I have the SW 2. I like it. I would be mad(at myself) if would have paid $60 for it. I am a JEEPER. I like to make my own modifications to make my Jeep my own. I'm not a mall crawler. If would have spent 60 on it and later realized I could have made an EXACT replica for 1/3 the price and been able to call it my own I would have been pissed; hence the reason I said that spiderweb is going ot have to up the ante to sell it to real Jeeper.

If you have soft lotiony hands and an extra 60 buck laying around go buy one. If you are a real Jeeper be a Jeeper and make it.

Just my opinion.

Hey, I resemble that remark. Ours is 100% mall crawler. Real Jeeper in the real O.C. We use our Canyon for the heavy duty stuff where the Wranger can't go

It's spider's idea, first of all and he's still developing it.

As I have said before, if something should fall through, I'll design something.

Do I want to do that? Not really. Credit should go to Chris, and I'll give the man credit for continuing to improve his product and take feedback.

I'd really like to see some cheap upgrades here and there.

1.) If using grommets, use black grommets. Otherwise, use straps sewn into the side of the top.

2.) To even out the rear of the top and make it shape to the rollbar, sew inbetween the fabric at both sides, a bendable plastic tab that will bend like a bow, and keep the top firm. This will negate the need for an extra bungie-ball, make the top stronger and make it form to the rear portion of the roll bar perfectly.

There's a couple of freebies, and they wouldn't be hard, nor expensive to add. I've got some others too, but I'd like to see the top first. This is killing me because there is so much potential. Either way, I'd like to see a nicely improved top hit the market, no matter who is making it. And there are a lot of people who want to see a better top.

No one is saying that it won't function well. They'll all function the same since the material doesn't vary.

Chris isn't bestop, but the top isn't very complicated or expensive to manufacture either. If you want to set yourself apart, you have to add features that other companies don't have, and add things that people can't just make themselves.

Chris, this being your idea and your child, I'd rather help you out and make changes then do it myself. If for some reason this thread should die off, and you stop making changes, I'll probably go ahead and make those changes myself that others want to see. You seem ready and willing to improve things so no worries.

Just keep us updated, even if you don't have anything new yet, keep this thread updated so we know you're still around.

You betcha. I will post the pics of the side shade I am going to make. Like I said. I have the SW2, no need to replace it, though I will add and delete some of the grommets to make it fit how I want. You'll get your pics, as soon as I am finished with the $50,000 Beechjet refurb I am working right now.

Scene from Silence of the Mall Crawler

Brew461: It rubs the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it is told.
Jeepwave: Mister... I will pay cash. Whatever Spiderweb is askin' , I’ll pay it.
Brew461: It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.
Brew461: Yes, it will, Precious, won't it? It will get the hose!
Jeepwave: Okay... okay... okay. Mister, if you let me chrome my Jeep and hang expensive “tarps” on it, I won't - I won't ever go off road and cross paths with “real” Jeepers. I promise. I’m a mall crawler... I guess you already know that.
Brew461: Now it places the lotion in the basket.
Jeepwave: Please! Please I can pay more! I have loads of cash and I don’t know how to build anything. You see I’m not a real Jeeper.
Brew461: It places the lotion in the basket.
Jeepwave: I wanna be a real Jeeper! Please I wanna be...
Brew461: Put the f****n lotion in the basket!

So, I'm confused a little bit here. Brew talks about being a real Jeeper and making things yourself...but he says he has the SW2 and likes it. How does he have an SW2? I don't feel like going back through all these pages to reconstruct this. Is this difference that he got one but didn't pay $60 for it? Did he get it for free or cheaper than $60, and if so, does that somehow qualify as having made it himself, thus rendering him a real Jeeper?

Ok, so curiosity got the better of me and I went back to figure out why his statements are so contradictory. I will hear no more testimony today - court is adjourned.
