MBRP S5500409 Stainless Cat-back Kit - No noticeable sound increase?

Hey all,

I recently installed an MBRP S5000409 2.5" Cat-back exhaust with a 3.5" tip onto my 2003 TJ Sport, automatic. After reading many reviews on it, as to the increased throttle response and a little better MPG from some, I decided to give it a try. However, after watching some videos and listening to how it SHOULD sound, mine sounds nothing like it. Maybe a TINY bit louder than stock, but only from the tip. Any suggestions as to why it may not be sounding as it should?

In my experience with exhaust on other vehicles. They will sound a bit different after they get broken in.

Also, in those videos, did they also have aftermarket intakes? That would increase the sound.

So it may just take some time to have the true rumble come out? Some did, some didn't. I also have a K&N Cold-Air intake installed as well.

Possibly. I would think you would heat an increase over stock.

I only had put other exhaust on my CJ, and heard a difference with each one. Never put one on the tj

Also did you weld or clamp the system into place? That will make some difference too.

All this is why I have consistently advised folks to avoid mail-order cat-backs. When you buy and have it installed locally, there's no problem getting exactly what you want.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

I had this exhaust on my 04 Rubicon and I loved its sound. Had a nice rumble to it, not to loud to be obnoxious. Plan on getting it for my LJ while they have the discount going.

Is it possible your old system was worn out and was louder than it should have been?
