That's a hell of a deal. I gotta say though, there's something incredibly satisfying about making something for yourself. Plus you can change things if you want. For instance, on the top I made it 5 straps across instead of 4. I thought it would look better and be that much more secure.

BTW, how big are the gaps on the top for the raingler nets?

Same prices as Raingler, I would go with the name I knew first.

There's a really good write-up on Stu Olson's site about these. He really liked them.

I haven't finalized them yet. The webbing stretches a bit so its tough to call without fitting them first. Trial and error kind of thing.

I'm going to try to do the fitting this weekend but of course, its supposed to rain Saturday and Sunday. I'll keep you updated

Hey brother,
Thanks for the reply. The 2" on the top looks sweet. Definitely a must project for me. I have a Great Pyrenees who loves to ride. These should really do the trick. Even better I can sew too. Funny, Long story here also.
Thanks, Chris.

I had never used a sewing machine but 30 of Mom traing did the trick I liked the look of the 2" better than the 1" too. I also made it so there were 3 straps in the middle instead of 4. I thought it might help keep thieves hands out

I definitely just found my next project! these look great man. Where they attach to the rollbars it looks like they just loop around, do they slide down at all or do they stay in place fairly well?

Nice job on the nets! They look great and I'm inspired to make some (even though I don't have a dog)! As for burning the edges for fray, I wonder if a woodburning tool would do the trick. I remember having one as a kid: http://www.woodburning.com/toolshop/detail.asp?iPro=357&iType=17

Ohh! I have a suggestion for you (and others wanting to make their own nets), instead of the "chip clip" or "paper clip" idea to hold things in place, I think I'd take the time to hand-sew some basting stiches (large, temporary stitches that you will pull out later). It might take a few minutes to do, but as you're moving the net around under the needle, it will save you tons of time and you'll know for sure that the straps come together where you want them.

Its actually just an old Kenmore from Sears my mom got when she was in college in the 70s. I'm pretty sure just about any machine would work

Thanks guys! I'm almost totally finished. Just need to line up the outside straps to connect to the rollbars. Only problem is that its been raining since Saturday and I need to take the top down to do it. No hazing on the goofy pic
