I could but my house was built in 1918 and is a tinderbox. I figured paying a dollar or two for some antifray stuff was worth my house not burning down. I'm VERY accident prone

The cargo net they use for the seats? That was the first thing I thought about doing actually too. For me it came down to aesthetics. I just preferred the black over the OD. I'd be REALLY interested in seeing them when they're done though.

I got the anti-fray glue from Joanne's Fabrics. Its this stuff:

It goes on just like superglue (just a little thicker). You can find it in any fabric or craft store. I ended up going with the heavy duty because it was only a few dollars more than the regular stuff for 50 yards.

Those look great! Did you draw out a pattern or just lay it out with the webbing? I plan on making a set of nets myself, if you have any dimensions that you wouldn't mind sharing, it'd sure help a lot.

Thanks for the feedback! I tried drawing out a pattern but it was just easier (especially if you're a hands-on person) to actually lay out the pattern.

As far as dimensions go, they were:

18" top to bottom
18" from the center of the "O" rings horizontal on the top
and 23" from the center of the "O" rings horizontal on the bottom.

Diagram:

From there, I just lined them up best I could. Take your time with them. It took quite a bit longer than I expected to do all of the sewing and alignment. I also started from the center and worked my way out so I'd maintain a constant pattern, because when they're pulled tight, any misalignments will really show.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I started on the top portion this weekend too. I think instead of doing one large section to go from the tailgate to windshield, I'm going to do two. One from the tailgate to the center roll bar and one from the center roll bar to the windshield. This will allow me to detach the net from the windshield and hang it down behind the seats to keep the dogs from getting into the front seat.

It'll also make it a lot easier to sew. The larger the sections get, the more a problem can expand. A small misalignment on one end will turn into a huge alignment issue on the other end if its a large section.

What do you all think? Good idea?

Sounds like a great idea. I have a net to keep my Mutt in the back too. By the way the windows look great.

The plastic loop adjusters are probably strong enough, but cam buckles would certainly be strong enough. I can stand on the nets in my jeep. I'm 6"3" 280#.

I was gonna try to get my buddy to find me an old net they were gonna dispose of and then I was actually going to try to dye it black somehow. Don't know what I would use to dye it with that would hold up. If I get it for free though it really doesn't matter too much if I jack it up. We will see if he is able to find me one, I will post pics.

I am begining my netting today. I picked up some tiedown straps from a local hardwaer store on clearance that should work at least for the sides. Your stuff looks great so far, can't wait to see the top portions.

I was thinking about making some nets too, not to big on sewing but was bouncing around the idea of using pop rivets at each intersection....

If you want to use rivets for holding everything together - visit a leather working shop (like Tandy Leather Factory to gather up the supplies including buckles, rings, etc. I think that they are fairly reasonable in price for their "make-it-yourself" projects.

I can't wait! There's something incredibly satisfying about making something yourself.
And let's not forget candle making, needlepoint and stamp collecting Just kidding it looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product installed. Thanks for the look.
