That is what I wanted to do Jerry, but Kilby told me that it could't be done with new models(I have an 04). I had the same notion that if the belt to the compressor breaks, than I just have no air(I still have the small viair in the Jeep), but at least I can still drive. I asked Kilby personally but he said it can't be done on newer Jeeps and wanted to know why I would do that. He said there hasn't been any issues yet, but I Keep a spare. with me as well as the stock belt and stock alternator bracket.

Since you have it mounted on it's side, the suction port is up top right? There is a left hand suction and a right hand suction model of york compressor. I hope you don't have a left hand suction one...

Yes, the suction port is on top!

ahhhhhhhh, but your post indicated that you have a major problem because the belt is too short...as I said, hardly a major problem.

Suction on top - not a problem if you ask me. I ran one like that for about 10 yrs...hardly ever added oil, and used it about once a month to refill 35s and typically a few other trucks. I am sure there will be folks that will disagree. Run the york till it seizes then go to pick a part and get a new one was my philosophy - but it never seized. Personally I think upright is the best solution (how I run it now).

The 1" pertains to vertically mounted Yorks, I have no idea how much you need. I do know when I overfilled mine, it blew a lot of oil. Now that I have the correct amount, I get almost none in my filter.

So would it be safe to say that I can over-fill it (on purpose)... let it blow a lot out (to a correct amount) and be good to go? If so, can I then use the dipstick to see where about it should read?

You might try it, but check it frequently. Some Yorks blow more oil than others, and horizonal ones will blow more than vertical ones. Some people even plug the relief valve to keep theirs from blowing too much oil. Just don't let it run dry.

I've heard that plugging the seep valve is a bad idea. It's to equalize pressure or something. I think you can put a new valve somewhere so it doesn't have the wrong pressures, but I don't feel like doing that, I'd rather have a little oil blown... afterall, that's why I bought the $90 coalescing filter from Kilby!

I can't resist...
I know it is a yj and not a york(not a sanden either, it is an Extreme Flow), but my oba turned so good, I think. 8 cfm at 100 psi, my home craftsman air compressor can't do that...
Let me know,( please..no york cracks, I already fought that one) there is a 2.5 gallon tank under the battery tray, braided hoseto the front grill for tire inflation, the qd is to fill an extra hole in the manifold.
If you noticed...I did not use the extra idler pully that Kilby says is needed...
This setup lets me carry the stock belt as a spare, but without the compressor hooked up.

(sorry about only a link...)

Pretty setup.

Good to know there is more than one way to do OBA. Keep us updated on the longevity of the pump.

I would like to see how you fit the tank under the battery. I'm looking for a new place to put mine.

I had the same problem withe the belt they sent me too. I just took a piece of twine routed it through the system tied a not and took it to NAPA and matched it up that way.
