Serp Belt TOO SHORT or otherwise won't fit!! RESOLVED

I ordered this serpentine belt for my OBA because I read on kilbyforums.com and jeepforum (see: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/2603787-post3.html and http://www.kilbyforums.com/?f=5&m=1817), that the Gates K060935 was the correct belt for a '97 4.0L with NO a/c. I have loosened the tensioner under the power steering pump as far as it will go, and the belt still seems too short (by like 1 or 2 inches, but since it's circular, it's hard for me to judge).

Is the belt too short because It's a gates knock-off, is this the correct belt? Can anything else move to give me more play to get it on? would pictures help? I'm kind-of desperate... I don't want to put the stock belt on without the york... this has been too long of a project to get held up because of a stupid belt issue!!!! HELP!!!

EDIT: Thanks for the additional replies, but in my last post, I said I was able to get the correct belt! Thanks again for all the help everybody!

I thought mine was too long at first. I didn't have it rooted the correct way. Go onto Kilby's forum on their website. Brad usually responds to every post by the next day.

I'd pull the idler for the adjustable one, route it up and see if your even close. It's pretty easy to run that tensioner the wrong way too, tightening instead of loosining. If you're sure its wrong, try one a bit longer, or loosen it up wrap string around the route and then measure the string. From there any auto parts place can generally help

Posted on kilbyforums.com, Brad gave me parts numbers for 4 different sizes. Still ended up wrong! I got one 5" longer than with A/C. My part number is K060960 which comes in at 96-5/8" long. It fit like a charm... pumping air! Although pumping a TON of oil too, so I need to already empty my coalescing filter's cup after only pressurizing the tank twice! I need to keep 10W-30 with me to keep the york topped off too!

I think that I put a 105" belt on my 2.5L w/OBA. Just measure the correct size (run a string through the pullys) and go to NAPA. Simple solution.

I've even had length probs just replacing my OE serpentine belt. NAPA STILL has the wrong p/n for '97 4.0L with a/c engines in their database, I have to bring an old belt in pull the p/n from. It seems the belt manufacturers don't quite have their acts together. This is probably why I never bothered to convert my OBA to a serpentine belt, I figured there'd be a lot of grief figuring out the right length to use. I use a small fan belt off a double alternator pulley to drive my OBA.

How much oil do you have in the York? It only needs about 1" as read on a dipstick.

Just did my oba 3 weeks ago...A secret I did not know about belts...
The part number is thier size in inches.
eg- NAPA part number 060910 is telling you it is a 6 rib 91 inch belt.
If your belt is this belt(this is a TJ belt, I think) and it is too small, get the part number 060950, it will be 4 inches longer.
I think I ended up with the 97.5 inch belt(P/N060975 of coarse)
Hope this helps...
This size in the part number is true with all makers, as far as I know.

I put about 1/3 of a quart of oil in the suction port before I mounted it. I think most of it blew out since I have it mounted on the side. I don't want to run it w/o enough oil, and I haven't thrown my dip-stick in. I need to make some sort of snap, or clip to keep the dip-stick handy in the engine compartment. I guess I could just throw it in the glove box...

Well THAT is certainly a late-breaking news item, that's cool to know the key. That'll definitely come in handy in the future for me.

I would prefer that setup to a single belt... is that how the Kilby kit is setup for older TJ's or did you rig it that way yourself?

I got one of Brad's first kits so that's the only way it came. But I think he can still set you up with that way of spinning the York. Yeah I like it this way too.

Great! When the time comes, I'll have to e-mail him about that before I buy! Thanks!
