Low Pinion D30 to HP dana 30 Swap

I see quite a few posts by people asking about this, and the only thing people say is "It's easy.", so I figured I'd toss up some pictures, a bit of commentary and how I did it.

First, If I had to do it again, I would have skipped regearing my LP Dana 30 with a lockrite, and just went for the HP with an ARB.

Anyway, heres a couple before shots:

Thats the better looking lower control arm bracket..

I wont bore you with getting the front axle out. Stu-offroad.com has all of that and is a great reference
Total time removing the axle, knuckles and steering was about an hour.

I owe all the thanks in the world to mrblaine for the next set of pictures. He had the patience to deal with me and set me up with exactly what I needed. (Easier said than done ) He has likely forgotten more about all things Jeep than Ill ever know.

Heres a side by side.

Yeah, I missed a few spots..Its getting another coat before it goes in.

Currie lower control arm skid.

Well, thats how it sits now. Another coat of paint tomorrow, then Ill put the new axle in on Monday and install the ARB compressor and switchery..

I lucked out on that one. I have a buddy at a salvage yard that pulled that one from a 92 in absolutely pristine condition.

It's all in. Nothing really to say beyond that. It was about as hard as a lift kit. I spent more time changing the ujoints that putting everything back together.

Tomorrow Ill set the toe, hook up the ARB compressor and switchery and go for a spin. I expect it should be night and day, since I discovered my ball joints, TREs and front U Joints were all not even worth keeping for spares

A big thanks to Blaine for pointing me in this direction and putting the axle together.

Thanks to Jerry for the pinion angle assist

this makes me wonder what the minimum lift required to fit a HP D30 in a TJ is?

Not to hijack, but what are the advantages of the HP 30 VS the LP 30? Can a super 30 still be installed?

HP 30 is 30% stronger due to gear drive configuration and the pinion is higher away from rocks and other stuff that want to break it. yes alloy shafts, lockers, etc can be installed.
