"low clearance" 8.8 diff covers
I've got a thick armor diff cover on my 8.8 and it hit the stock gas tank skid. I "upgraded" the gas tank skid to a EMP skid that raises the tank up another inch. I also made sure the tank skid was slid all the way back in the slots. The 8.8 diff cover still hit the tank skid going over bumps, sometimes very hard.
I ended up swapping back to the stock 8.8 diff cover but I don't like how cheap it is. Is there a complete replacement for the 8.8 that isn't too deep? I would like to know the lowest height measurements of 8.8 diff covers laying flat but the manufactures don't give out that information. Can some of you members with aftermarket covers on your 8.8 go out and measure the cover for me? That would be awesome. Please list brand and installed depth. Edit, I started a list from measurements submitted by members. Stock cover: 3" Riddler: 2-7/8" Solid: 2-7/8" Rockcrusher: 3-1/4" Ruff Stuff Specialties: 3-9/16" BTF: 3-1/4" Anyone else have measurements for me please?

Here's what I've got. Surely there's an 8.8 diff cover with a lower profile then 3.7" out there. The Riddler looks low profile but I don't have this measurement.

My stock cover does NOT hit, just the nice, beefy aftermarket one. It isn't a brand name, I got it off eBay but it looks like the AtoZ or the Ruffstuff cover. |

Riddler just emailed me back today. Their 8.8 diff cover measures just under 3 inches from the machined face (gasket surface) to their logo on the face of the cover. That's as low profile as we're going to get I think.

My stock cover rubs very slightly on the tank...did the new tank skid do anything to help the clearance for you?

my stock cover clears my tank skid by about half an inch...just put a half cover on or one of the "football mask" types

My stock cover clears by at least 1/2" with the EMP tank skid. I was never able to test it with the stock tank skid, the aftermarket diff cover was on back then. That is what made me buy the EMP skid to try to fix the interference problem. The EMP skid didn't help so I put the stock cover back on it.

Alright, I'm planning on getting the EMP skid sometime soon so I'll see if it helps at all.

A friend on mine had a problem on his dana 44 when he put his truss on (I know...different axle) but he had to shorten his control arms all half an inch to get it to clear. Might be a quick/cheap solution if you have adj. CAs. Half an inch doesn't lose much wheelbase either.

I was able to move the axle forward a couple inches to make clearance...
