Loud noise in front when turn?

Please could someone give me some advice -Jeep is making a very loud noise when I turn in driveway of make a sharp turn. Could this be a ball joint or a u joint? I had a chevy truck that had the same sound and ball joint broke front end was on the ground!
Sharp turns-jeep jerks like it is sticking
not sure how to discribe the tire sound it is not like a rock in the tire more like a uneven hum similiar to a train (but not as loud -an uneven sound)
PLEASE HELP!
Annie

The jerking during sharp turns makes it sound like it's in 4 wheel drive (transfer case).

Cv joint is in the drive shaft(it is made up of ujoints). The axle ujoints are what I was refering to they are on axle shafts between the axle tube end and wheel. The ball joints are on the steering knuckles and connect them to the "C" on the axle tube. I would lean toward the axle ujoints especially if this occurs when turning. You'll have to check all of them to determine the source.

From you description, I do not get you having a pop or anything, is that correct?
If it is just humming when you are making a sharp turn, check you power steering fluid and make sure it is not low. Once the pumps get low on fluid they will hum or make worse sounds when you are turning. If that is the case you can sit still and not be moving, turn the steering wheel and it should still make the sound.

Its not a pop-it is a loud thump(like something is breaking), when turning, or over a bump-sounds like front end is coming apart-power steering fluid is fine. The humming in the left tire is all the time(not an even sound going down the road) All this is happening on the left front.-was on a muddy road, front end was all over the place, even in 4wd-never had that happen before, even in the snow. Will check u joint-scared to drive it

The stock axles do not have cv joints, they have single ujoint at each outer axle shaft. I would also consider the wheel bearing and check all the steering linkage too while your checking the ujoints and bearings.

Before spending a ton of money of parts, make sure your not rubbing the turn stops. Are you by any chance running slightly bigger tires?

If so, just add a couple washers to the stops and see if that takes care of it.

X2...maybe it didn't dis-engage, and you're still in 4-wd.

X2 The drive shaft doesn't care if you're turning, but the axle u-joints do...
