Looking for a rear bumper/carrier

I'm trying to decide between two...

Jeeperman's which is on sale for $725 shipped, or the LOD Extreme which goes for around $500 shipped.

I really like the 3rd brake light inside the wheel option of the Jeeperman.

Thoughts?

I just installed the LOD xtreme duty 2 days ago....fairly simple to install and it's awesome! i drove 100 miles today and it was fine. There is a lot of clearance, so i can actually see out the back window. Very quiet except for the d-rings rattling a bit, but thats expected. I opted not to put a third brake light in...even tho its technically illegal, i don't see the need for it. Altho something could def be rigged up like a tuna can or even getting a center cap and putting a red light into it. I've also seen people use the top of teh A-frame for a brake light.

bottom line is that the bumper rocks, and def worth the steal at 500 bucks.

I will be getting a jeeperman front, but the rear is just too expensive IMO.
Good Luck

I have the Jeeperman rear and it is one sturdy SOB. The hinge uses axle bearings. It comes with the frame tie-in kit, I've got 14 grade 8 bolts holding that thing to the frame and x-member. I've hung my high-lift jack from it, and will move my CB antenna to it after my lift. It is a "slam shut" variety, and you don't have to worry about pins and the like. It does not rattle at all. I got the version with rear corner guards, too... a little something under the corners to prevent carnage.

The only con is to inspect the powder coating when it arrives. Mine is in great shape, a couple of people have reported problems.

Inform me. What is the LOD extreme? I'm buying one in a week or so. I'm looking to spend around 400.

May want to check out llamabumpers as well. I'm going with their rear bumper with carrier towards the end of this summer.

I have a light on the inside of the wheel on my LoD xtreme. I only had to drill two holes to make it work. Really easy. I got the light from Rock Hard.

Sorry about the pic quality. My photography skills aren't the best.

HEY pipedrummer.....how long did it take you to install...and did you have to drill? was it a pain....

took like 45 mins.... you need to drill 4 1/2" holes into the crossmember....wasn't too hard, just start w/ a smaller bit and work your way up. sharpen a pencil as far down as you can, thats about the only thing i could get in there to mark the holes... I bought a 1/2" dewalt bit at lowe's w/ a 3/8 shank b/c i dun have a 1/2" drill.... $18 ouchh

the hardest part was threading the bolts thru those holes into the plates behind the crossmember....the driver's side was esp hard to line it all up.
i used the 4x4xplor write-up, helpful altho you can temp. attach the bumper to the bottom 2 bolts to hold it up while you mark the holes, you don't necessarilly need another person to hold all the weight (just make sure the bumper's flush to the crossmember when you amrk the holes).

4xfiend, i like the brake light...maybe i will make mine legal now

I installed a LOD heavy duty bumper and marked the holes pretty easily by putting some masking tape on the end of the bolts, and then coating the masking tape with some blue chalk that could be used to mark lines when cutting lumber. Held the bumper in place, pushed the chalky end of the bolt into each hole, and when I removed it I had perfectly lined up marks to drill my holes.

Also for the bit - try looking for a kit with a 1/2" drill bit. Home Depot had no 1/2" bits for less than about $16. I went to Walmart and got a whole new set of Black and Decker drill bits, including the 1/2" for about $9.

Good luck - take your time. I'm real happy with my LoD so far. Will be looking to them for a front bumper soon.

Anybody have any experience with the Hanson A-Frame rear bumper/tire carrier. It's a damn good price.

That's just for the carrier and not the bumper at least the one I saw on 4wd.com is like that. Check out the llamabumpers link I posted earlier. Similar price to the hanson but includes the bumper.
