Looking to drop a 6cyl into my 98 "HELP"

Im looking into what it would take to swap out my 4 cyl in a 1998 jeep wrangler and drop a 6 cyl into it. What I'm asking is what would I have to take out, what would I have to replace, what can I keep and how extensive will it be.
Thanks

use the search tool, your better off selling the 4 cyl and buying a 6cyl TJ or doing a V8 swap for what it would cost to drop a 4.0 in your TJ

I have not done the swap but I did research it for my son's 98 TJ. You will need to swap the motor, tranny, transfer case, engine wiring harness, and computer. You will also need to move the motor mounts which requires some welding. Other than that I don't know but I do know it has been done numerous times and I'm sure someone here who has done it can provide much direction.

By the way Welcome to Jeep Forum, this is the best place to find your answers!

I essentially did it. Bought a 6 cylinder Jeep that needed a frame replacement due to an accident. Found a 4 cylinder frame to use as a replacement.

Motor mounts are relocated.
Need all jnutter listed.
Also need the fan shroud and so forth from the donor.
It'll take you probably 2 full weeks of vacation time, IF you have all parts in hand, like a complete donor vehicle.

Here's the deal. IF you have a hell of a deal on a complete totalled 6 cylinder donor, AND have mods invested in the 4 cylinder that are not easily removable, as in a welded on longarm setup, and have a lot of time, and a very well equipped shop, it MAY be an inexpensive way to get a 6... IF the original deal was great AND your time has no value, or you REALLY like working on the Jeep.

Otherwise... sell the 4, buy a 6, swap mods to the new one.

The technical advice you get from me here is worth exactly what you paid me for it. Warranty issues will be reimbursed at double what you paid me for the advice.

Thanks for the advise guys. Decided against swaping it out.Boodyrider like you said Im better off buying a six..... The reason why I wanted to swap it out is that Im already taking the engine out, do to the exhaust manifold pin snapping off on the block.(Have to take the engine to a machine shop so they can machine out the pin). My next thought now is since I'm taking out the engine I'm thinking of doing a rebuild. The TJ is pushing 130,000 miles soon and would like to give it some fresh life. Any thoughts.......JKnutter thanks for the welcome
