Looking to change to a 5 speed.

Right now my 98 Sahara is on its second auto tranny and it seems to be on its way out the door again. I have had nothing but problems with it since the rebuild (shift kit added at that time) and I don't feel like rebuilding it again.

I want to change it over to a 5 speed and was wondering if anyone here has done this? Do they make a kit to do it or should I just get everything I need from a salvage yard?

What will I need other than the tranny, bell housing, clutch, flywheel, and pedal set?

Will my transfer case work? What about the stock computer, will that work with the stick?

What is the best/strongest 5 speed I can use? Should I go stock, use the Rubicon stuff, or aftermarket? I am looking to have a good 5th gear so I can actually commute on the highway with it.

There are some options you can check out. Look at advance adapters - they have bell housings and everything else you could want/need, and the info to help you make up your mind. I am going to do the same thing here in a while. I am going w/ a new nv4500 kit w/ the atlas 2 for 4 thousand something. The nv4500 is what the Rubicon has (I think) and in some full size chevy and dodge trucks. It has a lower first gear and a 28% overdrive too. I would look into the advance adapters before buying anything though so you can get a picture of what is out there. HTH...

I looked into that site, but couldn't find anything for mounting to the stock I6. I think I will probably just get the stuff from the salvage yard.

What will I need?
