Long time lover first time owner 98 Sahara
Hey guys I'm Omar from CT I just bought my first Jeep a 98 Sahara.
I love the jeep and I would appreciate any help with comments or suggestions.
Thanks.
oh and here's a link of it on eBay (I didn't buy it off eBay the winner couldn't pay or something so I went to his house and bought it.) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...TODAY.m238.lVI

one main question I have is how hard would it be to add cruise control? and does anyone know what the 98 sahara has for a fuel capacity and mpg?

With 4.11s and 35s mpg is gonna be kind of so-so around town but decent on the hwy. Depending on engine tune and driving style of course, if it were me I'd expect 14-15 city and 16-17 highway. Some get mileage in the 8mpg range but for the life of me I can't see how it could be so low except purely trail tankfuls.
Far as I know they all have the same *size* tank at 19 gals but some have a filler neck/vent arrangement that makes it effective only for 15 gals. Search the forum for info on how to modify those.

I've seen the cruise control modules available but haven't checked in a while. The question I'd have is whether cruise control could be usable with 35s and 4.10s. You may not have enough available torque to make use of cruise control which needs lots of available power and torque to control speed effectively. I'll bet yours will be quite drivable and go well, but you'll probably be shifting to adjust to grade and headwind, and you'll be aware of making do with whatever power is available on the road.
I know when I bought my 2.5 liter in 2000, all the Saharas I saw had factory cruise so I'm surprised yours doesn't. Did someone take it out in order to put in a hand throttle? (which would use the same spot on the intake as cruise). Back then I wanted cruise and asked about adding it. The dealer was skeptical about it, and when I drove at speed on the freeway I realized why: even with stock tires cruise would be useless on a 2.5 liter. Not enough power available to maintain a set speed--instead I adapt my speed to the gear I'm in and the grade I'm on. Cruise works fine on Saharas with stock tires, and your 4.0 has a lot more power and torque than my 2.5, but with the big tires and 4.10s you may have to drive it a bit like I drive my fourbanger with a bit of gear hunting.

The tires are super swampers.
I was also wondering if anyone needs a set of fender flares I got the stock fender flares for the 98 sahara (made to match the body color (Black) any takers?
I'll trade for some overhead lights maybe even the side lights or windshield mounted mirrors.

pm'ed you back...
I'm really looking to trade for either an overhead lightbar with lights (and wiring kit) or the combination of a sahara glove box (tan) and windshield mounted side mirrors.

thanks but I just found out that I have something stuck in one of my tires and my friend told me when he was driving behind me he saw one of the wheels wobbling... also the jeep is extremely sensitive (especially on the highway) to steering and lastly the glove box lock is broken so when you open it...it falls apart. but still I think I got a good deal at 80k right?

Those "custom" control arms might be whats causing it. But it looks to be a pretty solid setup, and even if you can't figure out the steering issue, I'm sure you wouldn't have to shell out an extreme amount of money to have it checked out by a pro.
I think its a good deal for the price you paid. Stock Jeeps would sell for about the same amount. And you've got a lot of good upgrades (provided they were installed correctly).
However, your problems described is why I would never buy a lifted Jeep. Most guys lift it, then realize all the problems they have and decided to dump it to recoop some of their money. I hope this isn't what happened to you. But like I said above, regardless.... lets say worse case scenario it'll cost you another grand to have the issue resolved by a professional 4x4 shop.
Thirdly, I bought a car on Ebay once. The owner didn't list it as an R title. I drove all the way to Jersey thinking I got a sweet deal (because the auction ended at 3:30 in the morning). When he showed me the title it had a big fat R on it. I immediately told him no deal and he got really pissed off, almost to the point of physically attacking me. I told him to go screw himself, I wasn't going to buy an R titled car and it was his fault for not accurately describing it on Ebay Motors. The point is that I'll never buy another car I can't drive at least twice before purchasing.
