LJ 3.5 in lift and 35" tire tech questions?

Hi All,

I have been struggling with all to common newbee lift and tire issue. What size and how big? I have an 06 LJ and am interested now in getting a RE 3.5 lift and 35" tires but have a few questions. I think 33's look to small on an LJ because of it's size. I don't want it to tall that it becomes a pain to enter every day.

1. If I don't do really hard wheeling but like the look of 35" tires can I use a 3.5" lift and a 1" body lift to get the 35" tires?

2. Are there any daily drivers that have 35" tires?

3. What kind of milage are you getting?

4. What other mods do I have to do to run a 35" vs a 33" tire?

Thanks!

i know a guy who wheels his very hard with 35" krawlers and a RE3.5" and no BL with a standard TJ, just adjust bumpstops a lill,

lots of DD with 35s or bigger, just make sure you upgrade brakes and steering,

its a jeep your milage will always suck, but if you spend the $1200 to regear you will stay close to stock,

brakes, steering and deeper gears, (4:88 for 35s, and 4:56 for 33s)

I drive ours every day to and from work with 35's and get around 12.5MPG city with the 6 cyl and auto. You could, most likely, add a 1" BL/MML to the 3.5" and be just fine. The MML may help you avoid the SYE/CV upgrade as well since you have an LJ and have a longer rear shaft (better angle).

1. Check out my spec's. I'm at 3" plus 1-1/4" BL, and it does me just fine. I do wheel mine hard, but no rocks here so the sway bar is always connected. All sand and mud here.

2. Mine's a daily driver as I'm sure many peoples are.

3. 11 to 13 mpg depending on how I drive. I have not regeared so overdrive does not get used right now. If you can regear I suggest it. 3:73's and 35's is piss poor in my opinion.

4. Depending on the type of wheeling you do steering and brakes are good upgrades. The four wheel disc on the LJ are fine for the wheeling I do, but I did upgrade my tie rod. I bent it when I had 33's. The regear is must as far as upgrades go.

I agree with you on the 33's. I had them for 15,000 miles and sold them to put the 35's on. Good luck and let us know what you do.

I ran the 3.5 / 33 combo for a year, then went to 35s, eventually ended up with the 4.5" springs, the extra rear weight of an LJ a lot of armor and winch up front netted me a true 4.5" from the 4.5" kit, so think through what you may add in the future. Pics are with 4.5" springs, had the BL the entire time.

35's are okay for the road, but you have to do your lift right. I have a 4" Skyjacker lift, and pro-comp MX6 monotube shocks. Don't lose your other stabilizing bars - maybe someone can chime in with more detail here on that.

I did NOT fix my gearing yet, which i really want to do, so if anyone has any advice please give it to me.

My gas mileage is horrible, I think i get like 8-10/gallon - i am sure this will get to the 11-13/gallon mark like the guys above once my gearing is fixed. The tires are loud and hum on the highways. They feel tall, and I feel wobbly most of the time - but theres nothing like being so high off the ground with a wide stance and big shoes.

I have a 1998 Sahara with 15" rims and 35x12.5" BFG tires. I would love to get the gearing fixed so my speedometer/odometer is correct. I have a stock manual 5-spd - all advice appreciated!

I was wondering if you noticed this thread is from '07?

For your set-up (35's, 4.0, manual), 4.88 gears and a 39 tooth speedo gear #52067639.
