Lifts and ride quality.

I am really wanting to put a 4" lift on my '04 Rubi, but am wondering how the ride quality will be affected? I am looking into the Rough Country suspension lift. In your opinions, do you think that's a little overkill for a DD? The 2.5 just doesn't even seem like it raises it up at all, and if I'm going to put the money in, I definitely want it to look the part. Also, does anyone have any pics of the hidden hitch class 3 (87431 Hidden Hitch Class III Round Tube Trailer Hitch Receiver Jeep TJ) on their rig? Is the one in that picture what it actually is? I've seen some complaints of people getting something totally different. Thanks in advance fellas!

Are you trying to fit larger tires or do you just like the look of a lifted Jeep? It most likely will not ride as good as it does now. Opinions vary on how much worse it will be, but I would not expect it to ride better. Hit up a local Jeep club and see if you can take a ride in some different lifted Jeeps.

Just installed the rc 4" x series on my 06 rubi with there 2.2 shocks and the ride is very good. I have 35" km2's and spare plus smitty bumpers and a winch and jack out front. I also have a hardtop so I am sure the weight help's. I also had to add a 1 3/4 spacer up front to level it. If it help's the bottom tip of my front flare's in the center are 41 1/2" and the rear is 41 1/4.

I forgot to mention I also have a 1 1/4 body lift.

You got any pics YOGI? I'm eventually wanting to go a little bigger, right now I have the stock size M/T's (which honestly I'm not even sure in INCHES how big they are, any insight?) But right now my ride SUCKS compared to other vehicles I've had in the past (of course it IS a Jeep, and I expect a little difference) but it seems like when I hit a little bump or anything my Jeep wants to go everywhere, is this normal? Also I hear some kind of shaking type noise that sounds like it comes from my front left wheel, and I'm hoping a new lift would help this out, and possibly a smoother ride.

Crawl under your Jeep and look/feel for anything loose. Grease everything that has a fitting. And if you have time take your shocks off and make sure they are not shot. It is worth a check.

I will get a couple pics but it will be Wedensday. I am leaving early in the morning to go to 4 wheel parts in jacksonville FL. to get a alignment and have my 5:13 gear's installed. your stock 245/75/16 tire's are basically
9.50/30.5/16 using a tire conversion.

If you think it sucks now, put on a 4" SA lift. If the "ride" is a priority when looking for a lift that height, save your money for a GOOD long arm. For ride quality with a short arm, keep the lift at 3" or lower...

Your experiences with bumps and what not are making me think you have some worn components in the front end. I would make sure all the steering and suspension components are bolted down tight, have good bushings, and don't have any unusual play in them. As for lifts and ride quality, if you want the best ride possible, then you need to be looking at a quality long arm lift kit.

X2. But it won't be a 4" with short ams (which is what I'm doing but I don't expect the Jeep to ride any better than a covered wagon)

Razorbac - you are wrong.
Mine rides substantially better than any stock TJ I've ever been in. I'm on short arms.

Ride control and quality is mostly about the shocks. Good shocks are the key.

Cilaes - yep, first off you do realize your wrangler will never ride like a car. But it shouldn't be objectionable.
First off - those MTRs are stiff tires, what pressure are you running? Too high a pressure will make the ride rougher. But when it comes time for tires, almost anything else besides MTRs will probably improve your ride.

4" of lift with your stock 31s will look funny.

Wouldn't be the first time... It's a subjective evaluation.

But I still don't believe it

And what's wrong with the ride of a covered wagon.I had a covered 51' Willys wagon.
