lift kit install problems...

6 to 8 hours is what RC says in the instructions...HA! I must have the most difficult 97 TJ in the world. Every nut I've turned has either broken off or stripped out. Anyone have tips on how to remove a stripped T-50 Torx head? Any other general tips will be greatly appreciated...

Sounds like a job for an easyout.

Did you use penetrating oil the day before on the bolts?

Good luck,

Jim

The bolt that's stripped is the one that holds the track rod to the axle housing. There's a flag nut behind it. I'd cut it off, but am not sure that I'll be able to remove the rest of the bolt and nut...

I realized it was going to be a challenge last night when I turned the first nut...on the top side of the front shocks. I broke them both off. I then sprayed PB Blaster on every nut and bolt imagineable. I went back out today to find it didn't help much. I sprayed 'em all again!

I just got back from Sears with a 1 1/4" socket...bad information from someone that told me that was the size of the nut on the Pitman Arm. It's not. Anyone know what size it is???

I would just buy a large adjustable wrench - mine opens to over 2" and I have used it for the pitman arm nut, adjustable control arms, etc...

that pitman arm nut is a 33 mm, i just finished installing my 4 inch rc lift kit this week. and i too have a 97 TJ, I sprayed all of my bolts with Pb and a few of them gave me some touble but the rest came out alright. I had a lot of problems with the piman arm though. But one thing that was mentioned to me on this board was that unless I was lifting the jeep more than 5.5 inches that I would not need to change the pitman arm. I haven't tested it out yet b/c I am waiting on my new tires. But as soon as I get them I have to check to see if I have bump steer b/c of the drop pitman arm. good luck with your lift.
