LED bulb in stock flare for parking/turn. Info needed

My roommate just hooked up his stock flares on his 2005 TJ, with some clear front and side turn signal shades. And his stock bulbs emit a white light so he was gonna buy some amber lights now. But we ran across these on 4wd.com:

Here

and

also here

So the first link is for the front we assume and the second for the sides. But if you look at that first link it states that you need to get a load equilizer. Is that true? And if so, where can we get that at?
I've never heard of that before being needed. And I've hooked up many undervehicle neon lights for local ricer kids and we never needed a load equilizer or anything.

I tried to find that LED 4x4 guy on here but I think have his screen name wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A load equallizer is only needed when you change a normal lightbulb for a LED one in a turn signal circuit - they would not be used for under car lighting. THe reason why you need a equallizer is because the flasher circuit requires a certain amount of load to work properly. LED lights use much less energy and don't create enough load for the flasher to work correctly if at all, the equallizer adds load making the flasher work. Try Auto-zone they may have a flasher unit that will work with LED lights - if not then JC Whitney would be my next choice. You could always hit a local car stereo shop too.

jknutter, is the "equalizer" the same thing that quadratec sells for the ORO (off road only) lite dots? So essentially if I have ORO litedots in the mail on their way along with the ORO lite dot "plug in 3 prong harness thingy that they sold me on" all I gotta do is get another one of those things for my buddy's TJ and his front LED turn signals will work and the circuit load will be "equilized" on them as well? What happens if he was to also get ORO litedots, w/ front and side LED turn signals, along with an LED 3rd brake light. Would all of his LED's be able to work properly with just that one ORO plug and play harness thing that goes in under the steering wheel?
Thanks for your response as well.

ccj ,
if you do not replace flasher with an led flasher you can modify your own flasher here is a link to look at.
http://www.stu-offroad.com/electrical/led1/led-3.htm

i picked up my trico ep-26 flasher from Pep Boys

If you dont mind me asking... why does he wanna go with the LED's?
Because they last longer?
Stock signal-bulbs have been known to outlive some vehicles...
Regular bulbs, in any color you want (I have blue under my clear frt shades at the moment) are like 5 bucks - and can be changed in a few minutes - is the intensity that great that it warrants a 4 to 500% price increase [for him] - not to mention the "equilized" issue or flasher replacement ?!?!
just askin...

O no. Actually it's cause his clear housings for the front he got from quadratec are going to be tinted w/ black paint. So he wanted the added security knowing that his flashers would be seen.

What does this 3 prong thingy look like??? THe flasher in a 2005 jeep is square with I believe 4 prongs on it. If you get the proper flasher or modify your own (as mentioned earlier) it will work with all of your LED lights that you use as directionals. Any Non directional lights will function normally without the use of an equallizer because there isn't a load issue with them.

JK, my bad. It's 4 prong not 3. It's this one. http://www.quadratec.com/products/13107_420.htm

I wouldn't waste the money on either of those lights above. Why? Because the mostly give off light in a forward facing direction and very little around the sides.

The basically will end up looking like a little sport light shining through the lens.

nearly all vehicle marker and tail lights rely a lot on the reflector to help spread the light and fill the lens. Those LEDs simply shine their light directly at the lens and will just show a little round dot of light.

My experience has been that when trying to do LEDs in the front, especially if you already have LEDs in the rear, is they tend to act very strange, even when the correct LED style flasher is used.

Side marker LEDs are a different beast all together. See the second diagram here:

That's the flasher to get, though I prefer Northridge4x4.
