LCA skid plate/protection suggestions
I'm looking at adding a front LCA skid and would like to get feedback from the forum on what others have used.
I've been looking at the Skid Row product and from what I can tell it looks like a good option. (http://www.quadratec.com/products/12529_200.htm). Any advice/suggestions on the Skid Row product or any other that I should consider is welcome. Thanks, Bob

The Skid Row is nice, but I plan on buying some beefier mounts
and weld-on skids, thats if I dont make my own. http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product _Code=RC-LCM55&Category_Code=cus http://www.rokmen.com/products/diy_fabrication_parts/jks_mini_skids/jks_mini_skids.html

I have the skidrow, I used them this past weekend wheeling in some rocks, they were did great the only bending occured when I had to use a bit of gas to make it over a rock, the skid bent up on the side that was not boxed in or braced. However it did its job and protected the LCA mount which if it had not been installed would have torn off.
Also I was worried about the u bolts that stuck out slightly(yes i used the sazall and choped off a good amount of uneeded thread) catching on a rock and bending, that wasnt an issue with them, the u bolts are fine, the only damage was when the skid absored the impact of the jeep sliding over the rock. I am going to just get it straightened when I go to the fab shop to get the side extensions welded on my rear bumper. If I were to do it over I would look into a weld on set. However I am sastified with my use of the skidrow skids and plan to keep them for a year or so untill I swap in a HP 30 or something else which will then have weld on LCA skids. Either way they are a good investment the plus side to weld on is its half the cost.

Definitely get weld on skids. They are welded to the axle tube, so it strengthens the entire control arm mount. I have the ones below.

Make your own and weld them on.
Something this simple can be fabbed very easily.

i have the JKS mini skids on mine. they weld on easily and really beef the entire mount, no need to cut the mount off and weld on new mounts.
also you can get them for about $25.00 shipped from DC4wd. yes they are more than fabbing them yourself but for $25.00 they are prebent and fit perfect, just burn em' on . they will also fit the rear lower control arms too on the backside of your rear axle and will strengthen those mounts too!

Heres what I just did. Had to leave the bottom open so I could get to the grease fitting.

That looks nice, as does the skids off jrtdogbone's Jeep.
I found I scrapped on the bottom of my stock LCA brackets and the RE LCA's don't have a grease fitting on the bottom like yours so I can have a piece of metal cover the bottom. I think I'll go with Rokman product since metal bending/welding isn't a skill I have (yet). Now if it were getting a Smartphone/PDA commercialized on a cellular network I'd be home free! :-) Bob |

I think most of the weld-ons are the same. I also have the Mike Green skids. Weld on all the way
