Last Thread On This!!! (tj Brakes)
ok, so ive been reading around online actually. Is anyone for sure its my Caliper Piston and seals that took a dump on me? i need to know. Ive got brake fluid trickling from inside my caliper. Its not a stream but a small trickle whenever brake pressure is applied. I need help and advice. Is it indeed my Piston in my caliper, or possible a well needed reaplcement of a seal?

I called the physic hotline and they said they couldn’t say for sure without looking at it like the rest of us. Everyone has said in your other three threads just replace the caliper. You could have been done with this last week.

agreed for 30$ a piece replace them both and be done with it. Aint worth something else going wrong with brakes over a 30$ part.

maybe an 18 year old working part time and going to school with the other 75% of his life dont have the money to get this done with putting out 60 bucks for new calipers. i dont need any smart comments, or wannabe funny pictures, i need mature people that can put out helpful info (thanks to those who did). i found rebuild kits all over the net of all sorts, i just need some headway from some experienced jeepers!

See if you have a local shop that does free brake inspections. Then at least you'll know what the problem is and what it will take to fix it. Good Luck.

evan1395....you asked for advice from someone with more experience than you...OK, then here is the deal: The single most important part on your jeep that will keep you from killing yourself or some innocent person in your line of fire are YOUR BRAKES!!
You are seriusly leaking fluid from the system which is one step short of brake failure. None of us on this forum knows if a rubber seal is the problem or if you have scored pistons and or scewed up calipers as well. The last thing I would want to tell you is replace a seal and then have you go out and destroy someone because you had a much more serious problem with the unit, that the seal did not fix. I understand limited or no funds...we have all been there...but knowing when to take the cheapest way out and when to step up and do things right comes with experience. What people here are telling you is don't mickey mouse your brakes...if in doubt (which you are) replace all the suspect parts and be safe. We're just trying to help you here...Good luck and enjoy

In NASCAR, when they don't have the time to repair a leaky brake, they just crimp off the line to that wheel. That would also be the cheapest route.
Seriously, brakes are not something a novice should be messin' with. If you don't have the money to effect a proper repair, don't drive it until you do. Seek out a buddy with more experience. The free brake inspection suggestion is also a good one. Be safe.

I will guarantee you Caliper is Screwed and needs a rebuild or replacement!
If you can't afford the repairs park it. You can rebuild the caliper which will be cheaper but if you screw up the rebuild it may still leak and you have wasted your money. A new caliper is not expensive and you will be sure it is fixed. Although it is a good idea to do both sides if money is tight you can just do the one. The $30 for the Caliper for that side is pocket change even for a starving student if it truely is not then a Jeep is not the vehicle you should be driving.

Get your parents to loan you the money. Its a safety thing so they probably will. Worst case scenario is that they make you park it until you can get the money. Either way its safe.

Its either one of two things, the "O"ring around the piston or the caliper is cracked, in 30 years of working on brakes I have found that 99% of the time its the "O"ring, but it CAN be rebuilt, all it is is a "O" ring and dust cover, Auto Zone carries the kits and if you can change the pads, you can change the seals. If you can't, any Haynes manual sill show you how. (also available at Auto Zone)
There's one at 7542 Skyway. Paradise, CA 95969-3233. (530) 872-4692
