largest tire size on stock rims

eventually i am going to purchase a 3.5 inch lift with 33" tires. what is the widest tire i can fit safely on the stock 15x7.5 rims? or should i just buy new ones? if i buy a new set, what is the ideal width to fit 12.5 inch wide tires?

For 12.5 inch wide tires most people will run an 8" rim.

Run a 33x10.50 tire on the stock 7" rims... here's a Jeep that's setup nicely with exactly that tire and wheel combo:

New wheels aren't expensive anyway. Check summit or maybe even qtech for some. If they cost more than $200 shipped you're paying too much. That's less than a good set of wheel spacers. Good luck

31's. But you'll have to adjust the steering stops. All it is is a washer inside the steering knuckle.

And to answer the OP's question, I'd say 10.50's would be the biggest you could put on stock rims
