KC Windshield Mounts - Last Torx wont Catch

So i got some windshield mounts and KC lights for Father's Day. Decided to start getting them on. So far the drivers side mount went on perfectly, now the passenger side.....

I can not seem to get the front torx to catch the threads, i have tried tightening the outside ones (no go), loosening them, again no go. It just seems like the torx is not long enough. Anyone get longer torx bolts and if so, where? Or any other ideas are welcome.

i have also tried the search option and all seem to be "where did you run your wires?"

Thanks,
frustrated on fathers day

I have seen only people that drill holes to run the wires.

Do you mean that you got the bolts off the windshield bracket and when you installed the light bracket on the bolt doesn't reach all the way to hook the threads inside nut?

If this is the case. Usually the light mounts are supplied with longer bolts. Or some of them have the holes groved in a way for the bolts to go deeper through them. Could you post some pictures of the light mounts you got.

i am running KC brand light mounts, i just need one more of the torx on the front side of the bracket to catch the threads. The mount is in place only holding with the two side torx and the bolt that is used to lay the windshield down. Sorry no pics at the moment.

Just need to know where people are finding longer torx bolts for this application.

The brackets I got for mine came with new/longer bolts.
Check the packaging again, or take back to where bought
and get them replaced.

Or try ACE or Home Depot

A similar thing happened to me when I installed my Mopar lightbar. Before you buy longer torxes try to unfasten the side screws in a away to give you more movement for the bracket. Then try to hook the front ones and see if there is enough room for them to hookup atleast the first thread. If you got all four torxes in then you tighten them up. Sometimes the bracket isn't bent enough to fit directly in its place.

Get some grade 8 hardware that is 1/2" longer, I want to say that it might be 7/16.... I forget the size bolt, but they sell the 1 1/2" bolt that I got from pep boys and it was long enough to catch the float plate behind the windshield hinge. Good luck!

I totally understand your frustration with those d@mn torx bolts! What I did is take one of the torx bolts in to Ace Hardware. I told them I wanted the same thing but a little longer. They do not have torx bolts, so I bought 2 stainless steel Hex head bolts. Worked perfectly!! I would also recommend upgrading the mounting hardware that goes to the bracket to mount the light. The hardware KC includes is garbage. I also took that hardware in to Ace and told them I wanted grade 8 and a little longer bolt. So, I picked up new grade 8 bolts, locking washers, nuts and washers. That worked sooo much better. Check out my mounting and installation thread...here
