K&N FIPK

I'm thinking of installing a FIPK but my neighborhood mechanic says they are a pain to keep the filter clean. He had customers who threw out the filter because it was too hard to maintain. I looked at the K&N website and it doesn't seem too bad and looks like it is a good add-on. Thanks.

Tell your neighborhood mechanic to quit driving around with his hood open. (I'm guessing that he doesn't want you to buy the K&N because he's already jealous that he doesn't have a Jeep and the filter would make yours that much better.) Besides, even when it gets dirty, you pull it out, hose it down and put in back on.

Go mom. As soon as I install my Rancho lift I plan to get the same filter. You should have it in by now, what do you think? How about the exhaust system?

Okay, I installed the FIPK this weekend and I love it. I guess you guys were right. I noticed an improvement in acceleration and pulling power. Plus combined with the catback system it sounds good!

I just put one a K&N on last week. Love it, and I can feel/percieve the performance. Instead of buying a tube from Rusty's or TurboCity, however, I followed some intructions to make an adapter from a web site using ABS parts from Home Depo...$12 later, a perfect fitting adapter. It's currently working great.

With a little bit of searching I was able to find the a picture of the actual FIPK for use on the TJ

Anyone have pics of this actually installed on the vehicle?

I am really worried about water lock with the home-made installs.

JeepinMOM, I put on a borla exhaust last month and it wasn’t bad. Hopefully you have a SawZaw (or something similar) because your going to have to cut off the old exhaust just to get it out around the axle. If you want any info on the installation, e-mail me.

HTH
Mr. Bill, My intake is set up the same way but my filter isn’t as big. I mounted a QuickAir 3 in place of the factory air box. I mounted a 2 ½ gallon Sun Performance air tank under the jeep (and thinking about mounting another 2 ½ gallon air tank). If anyone wants info on the set up, e-mail me.

The dims are 6” x 24”. 2 ½ gallon tank w/ 5 NPT openings. The tanks are very tough and can take a beating.

I originally was going to mount my first tank under the hood, but that will be a tight fit. Also, I have relays and many wires attached on my firewall where I would have to relocate them to mount the air tank, so I ruled that option out. (By the way, Glen from http:/www.webejeepin.com/ has a York compressor with the same air tank mounted under his hood. Is that the same guy you’re talking about?)

I’m not sure where I’m going to mount my 2nd tank but I have a few ideas. If I slide my current tank over I’ll have enough room to fit the 2nd tank by its side. That’s prob what I’ll end up doing. Or I could mount the 2nd tanks above the rear axle, close to the gas tank skid. B/c of my lift, I’ll have enough room up there even when I’m flexing my Jeep.

If you have any words of wisdom, I’ll listen. Thanks

HomeDepo adapter instructions located at:
http://plaza.powersurfr.com/RJOTF/indexpage.html

I modified mine a bit...I don't have it sitting in the stock airbox. I hung mine up like Mr. Bills. I'm a little concerned about getting H2O up there, but apart from hitting roadway water at a decent splash rate, I don't do much stream crossing, etc...I think I'll be OK.
