Just bought a 97 TJ...1st jeep!!..pics and Q's

Very happy to say I have finally purchased my first Jeep. Something I have wanted for a long time as I am sure you guys can relate. After much research, waiting for the right one to become available and deflecting asinine craigslist scams I finally found one that was just right for me....nothing fancy now, but good for me.

Here are her centerfold stats:

1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport
130,000 miles
4.0 inline 6 cylinder
manual trans
stock suspension
brand new stock size Goodyear Wrangler tires
new soft top

pics (I will get some better ones when it is daytime)

Front

Engine

She is some sort of crazy green color... really caught my eye. It would be great to know the factory name. So far friends and family have described it as "Shiney Olive", "Metallic Pea" and my favorite "Dragon Green" but if you experts know the real name we can stop making up stuff.

I got it to replace my previous car that was a very good commuter car, but I needed to get out from under the payments. I am a freelance animator that works mostly from home so I don't put many miles on a car per year commuting. I bought the Jeep for 5,000 cash and I think it was a reasonable deal. She is in really good shape, not much sign of any off roading. No mysterious mods...a clean slate to do, you know, "stuff" to.

Now, I was hoping to find a TJ with Dana 44's and I think I got just that. But because I am no expert I am hoping you can confirm from these pics if that is so.

What do you think?

At any rate I am very stoked and look forward to years of Jeep ownership.

Thanks for the responses!

And thanks for putting clickless pics up for me, robncar. Apparently my freshly minted membership doesn't allow that just yet.

Emerald Green sounds waaaaay better than Metallic Pea...I like it.

During a treasure hunt through the seats, cracks and consoles I found a Mopar touch up pen. It was for Rescue Green. That lead me to a pretty detailed text only chart that said it was new for 07. The Emerald Green was used for 92-99 but it is hard to find an actual color reference. Now thanks to you I know. I will try that pen out on a out of the way spot to see if it matches...looks close.

Also great to know for sure about the Dana 44. I thought thats what it was when I inspected the Jeep but the previous owner didn't know. How rare is it to find those on the 97 Sport? Wonder if it was there when built or added later.

2jhanna- I used to live right by Cal-Tech, nice campus I used to ride my bike through. Prestigious school as well, congrats to your son. I once had a chance to check out the supercomputer facility there that JPL uses. Impressive stuff! I like Pasadena, it has some history to it.

Nice ride Boogieman.

Some quick daylight pics.

Sitting in there is my copilot Jerry. He says he can drive but I don't know if I trust him with that just yet. For now he can just be a spotter.

Not too rare, but a good find. It was an option for the Sport in 97 for anyone who didn't mind paying a little extra. Double bonus to get 3.73 instead of 3.55 like mine was.

Great looking Jeep. I think you got a steal. Congrats!

When was the last time you got an adrenaline rush at 3 mph?
