jks quicker disco's
i was reading a install instructions and someone used a tie-rod puller to get the stock swaybar connects off. has anyone installed their disco's without the use of a tie-rod puller? cant i just install these with some adjustable wrenches, a socket set or two and be done with it?

that is all i used but the problem is that the stock ones may not be that easy to get off-- on one of my buddies jeeps took about 2 hours banging and breaking what we could to get the stock ones to come off-- i used a socket set cresent wrench and all about 20 minutes to get mine off

I shot mine with PB Blaster, spun the swaybar all the way around until it was resting against the bumper, hit the bolt a few times with a hammer and it poped out. It's a cone shaped bolt so it has a tendancy to grow attached to the swaybar... It will pop out if you hit it good. It will help if you screw the nut over the threads so you have a larger surface to hit... Just make sure you have the nut not quite flush on the bolt so you are hitting the nut and not flattening the bolt. Otherwise, you will have a heck of a time getting the nut back off!

I just went to autozone and got a puller for just a safety deposit. It took me all of 30 seconds to pull them off once I had it. You can just pull them by smacking them with a big hammer, but it's rough.

On my '03 the passangerside just fell out. Ended up using an air hammer to push the driverside out. After I broke a puller and bent a pickel fork.

Newbie question.....
Confused here.... are you guys talking about the nut and bolt (Torx head) that you take out to disconnect the sway bar from the suspension? I suspect you must be talking about something else, because even with our Canadian rust, mine just unscrewed quite easily.
What am I missing?

We are talking about the cone bolt where the swaybar connects to the linkage. The bottom comes out freely, but the top bolt is usually fused with the swaybar.

I had to smack the dogsh$t outta the OEM's to get them off. I first tired just pulling them.....not happin....then I used a pickle fork....not happin....so I went to BFH and got em out that way. Use the hammer, its easier and if you have some PB Blaster spray it first.

I agree with using a hammer. After going through several tools and trips to autozone I decided to just pull the sway bar out, put it on my work bench and smacked it with my mini sledge, they popped out on the first shot. It took all of 20 min. to take the bar out, smack the bolts out and reinstall the swaybar. I spent about two hours trying to get them out while it was on the Jeep with no luck.

Here are a couple ways that have worked for me:
1. Leave the swaybar installed. Remove the nuts from the top of the swaybar links. Leave the bottom bolts installed. Use the proverbial BFH to bang upward on the swaybar. The downside - possibility of damage to the Jeep above the swaybar as it breaks loose. The upside - you don't have to take the time to remove the swaybar. 2. Remove the swaybar shroud and swaybar from the Jeep. Remove the nuts from the top of the links. Turn the swaybar upside-down and rest the bolt portion of the top of the link on a 2X4. Bang downward with the BFH. The downside - links that are really stuck will simply embed themselves into the 2X4; you'll need harder wood or an anvil (be careful not to mushroom the bolts). The upside - you won't risk damage to your Jeep. Good luck!
