Jerry Cans

I want to add 2 Jerry cans to my Jeep as a "just in case"...

So I have been looking in Q-Tec and 4wd catalogs for some type of mounting bracket etc that I can use to hold the two Jerry Cans. But all I have seen is wilderness racks etc... that have mounts for the cans.

Is there anything else that is nice and inexpensive that will allow me to safely mount the two cans to my Jeep.

Thanks..

i don't think there's much as far as "inexpensive" goes. I've gone as far as asking the fabshop forum boys about anything they might have... but nuthin.

time to step up PSC!

Do you wheel more than 1 or 2 days at a time? I start out with a full tank, wheel about 8 hours, and still have well over a 1/2 tank of gas. I use my Jerry Can for the mower and quad now.....

Usually for two days at a time, but where I wheel is more than an hour and a half drive away from the nearest gas station at 120kmph (75mph), so gas is at a half tank by the time we get to the wheelin location, kind hard to wheel for two days on 1/2 tank of gas. Lately a frind of ours who owns a tanker service has been poppin by to fuel us up at the end of the first day, but this is pretty expensive to do all the time (about $150 canadian for two tanks of gas vs. $80 for two tanks at the pump).

Need a better solution.

not typically, but it does happen... more typically, i run into dumarses who've run out of gas in state forest land roads...

I also like to be prepared. To a fault according to my girlfriend.

I saw someone had a fabbed up tire carrier that had a couple of gas can's between the tire and the tailgate, but it was pretty expensive. I will try to find it. When I build (or get a friend to) a tire carrier I am going to incorporate the same sort of thing, I jsut don't see room for them beside the tire. Hopefully someone finds something and shares the word, AL

whatever you end up doing, keep it outside the vehicle. fuel and passengers dont mix. just sticking a can inside is easy but dangerous.

The bumper/carrier at the bottom of that page carries 2 cans. It's kinda expensive but is worth it imo.

Bungee a 5 gallon plastic can to your rear bumper.

I've ot a hi-lift mounted back there and it works perfectly. It's like a sill, and I use a pair of big bungee's across it.

When I get to the trails I usually set up camp first, so off comes the can.

-Just and idea.
