Jeep Wrangler 1997 problem

Hi

I live in Finland and I have Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997 4.0l Sahara.
Jeep is imported from Germany.

My Jeep starts and run about 2 seconds , then stops. I think the
security system is broken. Normally I push button on keychain and
I hear beep. After that I can start engine. Now there is no beep.
I change batteries, but no help.

There is Rockwell security system. I think it is different than USA models.
I check that there is 12 volts one wire in that black box (Rockwell).
What I can do to wake up my Jeep. Is there any way to unarm my Jeep.
Or what parts I must replace to have it work.

Pictures of my Jeep www.iisalo.com

Thanks jappe

Sounds like your best bet would be SirGCal in Electrical.

By looking at your pics, looks like you had some trouble with the rear axle during a snow storm. You have broken the rear axle c-clip on the driver side, a common problem when larger tires are added to the Dana 35 rear axle. As to your starting problem, check to see if the security system is installed right or if it has a short in the wiring somewhere. I had a buddy who had a Grand Cherokee that was doing this same thing. His aftermarket security system had a short in one of the main wires leading off the battery and would start and then shut down after about 3 seconds. HTH.

Very nice looking Jeep

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this alarm system, is it from the factory??

most likely, it has been put in aftermarket.

a guess at your problem would be that after the battery died in the remote, you have to 'reprogram' it to work again with your system. I have no idea how to do that, though.

good luck.

Did you change the batteries in the remote or the Jeep?? The jeep battery can cause problems with a security system if it isn't good. I had a problem with my mother in laws Camry with her security system shutting the car down because the battery cable was corroded. For some reason it didn't have enough juice getting through to turn the alarm off..... I can't explain it.

My next suggestion is go to a bad part of town and find a criminal type to tell you how to get past the alarm system

Batteries in remote are new. I also put new battery in Jeep (yellow optima) and battery is full charge.

Yes, I have sledge and three Husky (3*4x4). Works fine in any weather

Buy an FSM online. Gotta have one for foreign models if they sell em with alarms. Best next suggestion.

Hi, I'm from Norway, and I drive the same car as you.
I also have the same stupid security system. in the 2000 and newer, the security code is integrated into the key. But in the models prior to that, they have the stupid remote thing.
I had my car at a local jeep work shop, and he mentioned that my remotes looked bad. The rubber surrounding the buttons were almost gone, and the buttons didn't seem too good either.
And he told me that if the remotes stoped working, jeep has launched a work-around for the problem. I don't think it costed too much.
But you could try contacting the local jeep store where you live.
I still haven't contacted them, since mine still work

Some pictures of my car can be seen at

FSM for europe models. Where to find one?

Tires are Maxxis Creepy Crawler 35".

I think in Norway have same system what is in Germany. In Finland we have very few Wranglers. They don't know very mutch about them in work shops.

Ok, then I believe you can buy an alarm from these guys
http://www.4wd.com/newsite/shop/prod...l.asp?pid=6002
Or the remote starter kit. Then they have a small add-on kit so their alarm can buypass the original security system.

If not, you just have to try finding a way to disconnect the original security system and leave it dead.

Try This Site

You can register and look through loads of information here http://www.the12volt.com/. If nothing else, try asking in one of the forums and see if someone can help you. I've used this site many times to work on several cars.
