Jeep Will Not Start

I turn the key and dash lights work as usual but no click and no starter engagement. It started doing this a bit yesterday. I would turn the key to the start position and it would hesitate for a sec. then work. Battery is good, cables are good. Any ideas?

You might have a broken ignition actuator pin. Here is a thread with a video showing how to look at it.

Same thing happened to me...only it would be on and off...

Don't take it to the dealer if you get it to start...fix it yourself...they ripped me a new one-$1200 to fix the ignition problem!

Damn! I will definitely fix it my self. I push started and it worked. I jumped the solenoid and it started. Just no love from the key.

Here is a pin that broke. Sometimes the broken piece will get wedged just right and it will turn the ignition switch enough to start it, then sometimes it might not ever let it start again. You can pull the ignition switch off and see the end of this pin. You have to use a tamper proof torx bit to remove the ignition switch, I don't remember the size.
Some auto parts stores carry the part, I got one off a Cherokee at a wrecking yard for $5.

Well, I got the part, but, Autozone sent me the wrong tool. They sent me a regular torx bit instead of the security bits I ordered. Oh well. One of the down falls for living in the country. Can't just run up to the store.

Try taking a small screwdriver or something like it & break out the pin in the center of the security bolts. Then you can use the standard T-10 torx bit.

Good idea, but, I finally got the correct bit. She is fixed. Thank you all for your help. Funny, It took me four days to get the part and right tool and only 15 min to complete the swap.
