Jeep TJ fender/tire clearance

I just was pulled over the other day for having no doors and too much of my 33x12.50's sticking out!!! I was issued a warning but now I have to get my '98TJ inspected. Does anyone know of the rules or measurements that are allowed for the tires to stick out from the fender flares? I just put on some 31x10.50's and the still stick out around 3 inches from the stock flares. I'm in BC Canada.

The rules change depending on where you are. Down here, it's state-by-state...it may be the same where you are. You can find this kind of information either online, or by checking in with your vehicle registration service. They may not know off the top of their heads, but they'll be able to point you in the right direction to find out the specifics. It would be good to keep a copy of the statutes on-hand when you go to get your inspection.

If 10.50s stick out that far past stock flares you have the wrong rims. (Way too little backspacing and/or too wide)

But I bet if you call the RCMP and ask they'd be happy to tell you how much tire you can have sticking out. As I remember (I used to live in Osoyoos) it is zero. The tire must be covered.
