Jeep Soft Top in the North East in winter?? Will I die??

Ok, sorry for my stupid guy from Florida question but will my family freeze to death in my Rubicon Unlimited softtop Jeep. We are going to visit a friend in NH in the middle of Jan. I don't want to take my wife's car for fear of snow. (I was raised in Northern Alabama and North Carolina Mountains so driving in snow is not foreign to me) My friend is telling me that the temps in NH that time of year are REALLY COLD. My concern is it not being comfortable to ride in the Jeep with a softop in those conditions. Will my family and I freeze to death? Or will we be ok with the heat on high?

Wes

Wranglers have pretty good heaters - I would not be that concerned about the cold. I worked for a couple of months in up-state NY - temps below zero thoughout the day in Jan/Feb - never a problem with my TJ.

That is a long drive in a rubicon from FLA to NH......even with a longer wheelbase.

I've had my soft top through NY winters since I had my heep new in 1999. I do have a few layers of natural insulation on me (read: I'm 300 lbs.)

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil, that true love never dies. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.

You'll be fine, just don't scrape or tap the snow off of your plastic windows... They'll crack a lot easier than you expect.

Thanks guys, I was really wondering about that kind of cold. Would you guys drive a Dodge Magnum R/T (rear wheel drive) or a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited with a lift (3.5" and 285/75/R16 BFG M/Ts) if you where me? Would I really need my 4x4 like some are telling me? (Florida people telling me!)

You should be fine. Just dont have the heat blowing directly on your windsheild.

My heater has broken my windsheild twice! (definatley not in Texas, I was in Colorado where it actually gets cold)

I'm from NH born and raised lived there till i was 18.

Mom Drives a Magnum R/T in NH year round, she's a real estate agent and puts insane miles on it. drives that badboy up ****ty dirt roads and seep mountain roads etc. through snow all winter.

i feel safer in that car in the winter than i do a top heavy jeep that's RWD with NO traction control and mud terrains (awful performance on wet/snowy roads)... if you've got the ESP and traction control on that Magnum, provided you dont friggin drag slicks it'll do perfectly fine in the snow. thats provided it's actually snowing out. they DO plow the roads...

i've TRIED to make the *** end of that car slide out from underneath me, and the ESP wont let it. trust me, that car is a better driver than you are haha

For that distance, Magnum. That is a long trip in a Jeep.

Not everybody in the North East drives a Jeep. For that distance, I would take the Magnum. Remember not to drive faster than you can stop. If it snows, "play" in the parking lot, learn and enjoy. Take your time, and enjoy how much quieter the Dodge will be. You are going on a Vacation... not a race! TAKE YOUR TIME!

I would put my money on the R/T compared to a Jeep with mudders for on-road winter conditions any day. I bet you have traction control, as long as the tires are in good shape, do the R/T. Lots of RWD 300M's, Magnum's, Charger's being driven up here in the winter.

If it was a Sport or an X model, you'd be in trouble, but since you have the Rubicon Unlimited, I think you'll be just fine.
