Jeep leaning to the right

My Tj has been leaning to the right for a few months now. I thought it was because my OME coils had sagged. They were really old. I just installed RE 4.5" coils last weekend and im still having the same problem. The left side is about 1.5" higher than the right. Anybody know what the problem could be?

Are the coils labeled for a specific side?If not,it's the engine torque doing it.I have read many posts about this but none of my Jeeps have ever had that problem. You could add a coil spacer on that side to level it out.Read here.

Its definitely not engine torque because it's leaning when it is parked, and the coils are brand new. I will call RE tomorrow and ask if the coils are side specific. But it was also happening with my old OME coils so i think it might be something more complicated?

Check to see if the coils are "clocked" correctly. Clocking is rotating the coil till it is in it's correct position.

I think the coils are front and rear specific or maybe your TJ is a republican and just naturally leans to the right!

well it still started up on the way back from the polls after voting for Obama (possibly a mistake), so i don't think it is a republican.

oops i just turned this into a political thread

Yes front and rear are VERY different and I don't think anyone would make that mistake - EVER.

look at your body bushings. i dont know what people always over look this and just assume its the coils. mine are crap and are being replaced as soon as the poly ones arrive. dropped 4 new springs in there a month after i bought it and no change looked at the body mounts cracked split pieces missing yeah look at the mounts.

Great, so i have to wait 4 years for it to level out

i actually have a pair of .75" spacers that i used to have in the back. Only problem is i have 1.75" spacers in the front already because these stupid RE coils lean so much to the front with a winch and no hard top. So could i safely stack the spacers.?

That brings up another question, why do RE springs lean so much to the front? Im not joking, i have 1.75" spacers in the front and it's barely level.

As for why the back end would be high, they are probably designed with the assumption that the Jeep has a swing out tire carrier bumper, with a full size heavy spare tire, two jerry cans, heavy duty gas tank skid etc...

Your average trail-riding Jeep tends to have a lot of weight on the back end.

As for leaning to one side, try swapping the left and right coils and see if it leans the other way... Also check the unloaded height of the coils on the ground just incase one is accidentally for a taller Jeep?

The engine Torque will cause the Jeep to lean to one side over time but it takes many many years of heavy footed driving for that to happen. I just changed my coils out last week to fix that and now it sits level.

Also some spring manufacturers deliberately make the right rear spring stiffer or taller to compensate for the torque-sag... were the springs labelled left and right out of the box?

The natural rake of the Jeep is 1.5" higher in the rear. That way when you have passengers in the rear it will be level and not sagging way down. You can safely stack the spacers.

Thanks everyone for the replys, im going to contact RE to find out if the springs are left-right specific. If not then ill just throw some spacers under the right side and call it done.
