Jeep Jamboree
I just signed up for the Oak Ridge Jeep Jamboree. I'm an old dude and have never taken my Wrangler X off road. I think the trails are rated 4-7 moderate. I don't expect any grueling adventure but I also don't want to be a burden on anyone. What sort of tools and equipment should I take along? My X is essentially stock but I have installed tow hooks fore and aft. I searched the archives and some have recommended a high lift jack but I don't know what that is. Any tips for this trip will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would take a first aide kit just in case. They will probably have some there but it always nice to have your own just in case. Ditto on the hi-jack and snatch strap. I also take a pair of machanic gloves.

HiLift purchase... not yet
Don't rush out to buy a HiLift jack just yet. If you don't currently have one or intend to do any real off-roading in the future, you really won't need one on the Jamboree. I've been on several here in Nova Scotia and the trailguides were fully equipped with rescue and extraction gear. Besides, HiLifts in the wrong or inexperienced hands can have disasterous consequences. Bottom line, they're dangerous.
Just go on your Jamboree and enjoy the experience. Learn from some experienced off-roaders and try to figure out from them what equipment you'll need to buy if you want to pursue off-roading in the future. Then look at a HiLift jack. Just my 2cents. Markus.

Yeah I don't think you will need the Jack I just put the link on there so you would know what it was...the strap are cheap and can help you out in a lot of situations...I have used mine countless times pulling people out of snow and ditches....you can get them at walmart too...A Fire extinguisher from Home Depot for $10 can't hurt either. The moderate trails will be bumpy roads...you should have no issue

Make yourself some quick disconnects- it will help you utilize the full suspension capabilities of your Jeep-

Off the HiLift topic, but relavent to the Jamboree (and any off-road adventure for that matter):
You should remove any locking wheel nuts from your wheels and replace them with regular ones for the duration of the Jamboree. In the unlikely event that you puncture a tire or roll a tire off the wheel, it'll be much easier to get the blown one off and replace it with the spare. Especially true of the locking nut is packed with mud and grime. Also, the Jeep/Chrysler locking wheel nuts have a tendency to strip at the most inopportune times. Speaking from experience here. Have fun on the Jamboree. Remember to bring a pen and notepad; you'll want to make a list of all the expensive upgrades to do to your Jeep once you get home to make it better for the next Jamboree Markus.

One of the most important things is a CB. You'll spend alot of time chatting to other Jeepers while driving to and fro and even on the trails. If you trail guides are any good, they'll explain the surrounding areas and what lines to take on some difficult areas. Also, disconnects. Get two 2.5" 3/8 (I believe this is correct) clevis pins, four washers and two hitch pins...Home Depot...about $5. Remove the swaybar bolts and slide the clevis pins with a washer on each side of the swaybar and your ready to go. You'll also need some bungee's to hold the swaybar out of the way when disco'd. Also, take lots of pics to show everyone
The trail guides will have tow straps, winches, first aid kits and most other jeepers will have tools. Most everyone is willing to help and tinker with any mechanical problems. Bring a cooler for some cold drinks...non-alcoholic of course.

I have been to Oak Ridge with my Jeep club very nice place to get a little of everything lots of just trail ,some water crossings , hill climbs, mud holes and if you want you can try some of the rock climbing but all most every rock climb has a bi-pass if you need it ,and you will being stock but you will still have a great time. I liked it there wife and kid had a good time too.
There is one hill/rock climb its calld CJ-5 Hill and there is no bi-pass back when I went if you wer'nt locked front and rear you were getting winched up....... good luck, and have fun Brian
