interior driving lights not coming on-

2004 lj
no dash/ac/shifter lights- dome light and all exterior lights are working fine. When I turn on the headlights, the dash lights up fine, but if the headlights are not on, there is no interior lights (yes, the dash should light up when the headlights are off... and it should be brighter than when the headlights are on). Anybody ever have this problem? I'm thinking it might be something to do with the headlight/turn signal/all-in-one switch, but havn't had a chance to tear into it, and would rather not have to. I chacked the #3 fuse under the hood, as well as the #1,2,3 behind the glove box.

Thanks in advance-

Are you sure about this?

Mine does the same thing, I call it normal operation.

Is the dimmer switch turned down or off?

Negative.

the dash lights are OFF when the headlights are OFF. the Dash lights are ON only when the headlights are ON. (actually more specifically, when the running lights are on.)

you can turn the overhead lights on or dim the dash lights with the dimmer knob on the end of the multi-function switch.
