I installed a set around Christmas.
The wife loves them.

Used them this weekend on a trail ride.
I had the windows down, but with the heated seats, no problem!

The install time was about 6-7 hours.

for that price you could have bought one that heats and cools your seat

Do they make one that can cool the seat? The only ones I've found where for a child seat and you had to freeze it first.

Interesting mod no less, I could've used it this past weekend when I was driving with the top down in 40 degree weather.

Just installed heated seat pads

I've just installed heating pads to my seats. I got mine from this company: www.waeco.co.uk

I started with the passenger seat as I figured that this would, firstly, be the easiest and, secondly, wouldn't matter so much if it went wrong. Although I did remove the seat I managed to free the covers sufficently to be able to install the pads without stripping it down. From what I learnt I was able to install the pads on the driver's seat without removing it from the car. Any hog rings that were removed were replaced with small cable/zip ties.

From Waeco's own picture - http://www.waeco.com/tmp/wae_msh-50_p001.jpg - you can see that the pad for the seat base has a cut-out going across it. According to the instructions this is supposed to go at the rear of the seat base. However (on a 2006 TJ at least) this works best if positioned to the front as it allows a strip of velcro on the seat cover to re-connect with the foam base. The disadvantage of putting the pad this way (the wrong way) around is that the cable is now pointing at the back of your knee rather than down the gap between the seat back and base. I got round this by making a hole through the foam, passing the cable through it, and connecting it all up under the seat.

Switches were mounted just ahead of the emergency/parking brake - thanks to whoever posted a pic of that idea.

Hope this helps anyone else looking to do this mod.

Is anyone worried about the seat heaters getting wet in the rain or while on the trail?

I'm glad you asked that. The question was on the tip of my fingers. I might do this mod for those winter wheeling trips!

This is a great thread. I bought my heaters from www.sportsimportsltd.com

As of this post I have installed both the bottom and back heating pads on the passenger seat. This evening I will be installing on the drivers side.

Now my question for those who have installed these already, how did you run the wires for the switch? Did you come from the bottom of the seats and run along the inside of the center console? I know I will have to remove or lift up on the center console to get the switches wiring installed and connected. Also, I am new to electrical wiring and would really like some tips or just plan guidance for connecting to the fuse board.

Thanks,

Krafty
