Installed seat heaters...

Very nice. Here's a link to the Ebay ad:

Seat Heaters

About $150. I mounted the switches just behind the gear selector and just in front of the e-brake handle. The install was relatively easy. The heaters only require a ground and a switched ignition source. Everything else is plug and play. Certainly helps on cold mornings. The seats get warm before the heater does.

Do you have them under seat covers? Or did you remove the factory seat covering to install?

Got pics of the switches?

Interesting and neat mod....good job!

I did mine in early January. It is great. The real question is how I lived without one for ten years. I put it under the seat cover above the seat upholstery. In summer I always have Wet Okole's on, and I bought sheepskins for winter. The heat transfers well through both.

Interested in how you wired to power.

Do you have individual switches for the left and right seat? Or is it one switch for both seats?

I knew I shouldn't have posted without pics first.

To answer a few questions:

1. I put them under the factory seat covers. It's not too hard to do, but you do have to take the seats out and separate the back from the bottom. Slipping the heaters under the covers is pretty simple.

2. Each seat has an individual switch that has a low and high setting. It also had an indicator light that is red when on high and green when on low.

3. It takes about 2 or 3 minutes to start feeling the heat. It's kind of strange...I tested the heaters before I put them in the seats and they don't actually get that hot to the touch. Even when they're in the seats, the seat fabric doesn't get that warm. But when you're sitting on them, the heat really builds up.

4. I tapped the aux. (ignition) power fuse in the glove box fusebox. I think it's the 3rd from the top on the left side. There's also a constant power fuse right above that one if you need it for any other electronics.

5. Here's a link to the write-up I used to get started. This person was installing a different brand of seat heater, but the basic process is about the same.

Install Link

6. I can take some pics later on this week of the installed switches and upload them.

I've done an install of these with a katzkin leather kit in a car before. It was really easy and anyone with even a little bit of mechanical knowledge can do this mod. You don't typically see heaters without leather. I wonder if there is any kind of fire hazard with cloth covers.

I don't think so, they don't get that hot (I think 120-125 deg). I think the main reasons you normally see them with leather is just b/c leather feels so cold to the touch AND it's normally more of any upscale option.
