Install YJ half doors on a TJ

OK, so all the credit (or infamy) goes to my brother for this mod and we are not assuming any liability for latch fit and function in an accident but here is a quick and dirty way to put YJ lower half doors on a TJ. The hinges and physical size of the door are pretty much a match so it comes down to the latch mechanisms. Bear in mind, the uppers doors are different between YJ and TJ so I cannot say they could be manipulated to fitted.

Remove full doors (top optional)

Remove stock latch bar.

Buy a door striker kit from the nearest HELP section in your autoparts store. Add 7 washers...

assemble in the factory top whole and voila, a YJ striker post on your TJ.

Trim 1" off the inside door handle. Optional, if you want to open the YJ doors from the inside on a TJ due to interference with the dash.

Enjoy.

Unless Jeep decided to change the doors mid way through YJ production, they should.

I'm not sure if there were ever any latch changes on the TJ. The Jeep in the photo is a 2002. Your results may vary

I have these half doors from a YJ and I want to sell them but I have no idea what they are worth. Anybody know what I should ask for them?

I also have the passenger upper hard part.

Anybody got any guesses?

haha I dont think I can do that. This guy is selling a set on ebay for $350 in Pennsylvania. I was thinking like $250 if I sold them to someone local. Is that too little? too much?

I think the last set of TJ half doors I got with uppers was $350 on Craigslist.

I thought a new latch would be needed to mod the TJ door to fit the YJ, as in a reverse of his description above.

People are asking a lot more price wise for TJ doors vs YJ doors.
