Jeff
I guess I am going to have to change my Excel spread-sheet's formula's to reflect the way that those guys in the south figure their numbers out, eh?

Ok .. so, I changed my math a bit.

I put in 15.67 US Gallons for a 18.8 mpg total which is up from ~15.87mpg when I was getting around 400km / tank. That is alot better than what I was getting at 375 / tank at 14.87 mpg.

But you're all missing the point .. it looks so pretty

Now if I had one it would match the color of my Jeep

Daimler-Chrysler Engineer - "Hey listen, we can ship Jeeps from the factory with these spacers, they'll cost us like ten bucks and they will increase gas mileage by 2 to 5 mpg! So instead of 15 city 19 highway we can put 17 city 22 highway and we'll sell tons more! Isn't this great?"

Daimler-Chrysler Suit
- "No, I don't like it. 2 to 5 miles per gallon means nothing, especially to the consumer. Screw it. Listen, the aftermarket guys need to make some money, let's let them produce it."

Daimler-Chrysler Engineer
- "Yeah, you're right."

Ummmmm....so....has no one replayed this conversation in their head when thinking of buying relatively inexpensive aftermarket products that claim fantastical gains in mileage?

Update: Apr 22, 2008

Just filled the Jeep with gas again and ran the numbers through my Excel spreadsheet.

415km driven and took on 56.6 litres of gas.

The math works out to be 17.25 US mpg or 20.71 CAD mpg or 13.64 L/100km.

It went down a bit, but, this week there was alot of stop-n-go travelling due to blizzards blowin' through town.

Why a spacer on a fuel injected vehicle? I thought they were only good for carb style engines. What good does the spacer do for when the fuel is injected in the cylinder chamber and doesn't mix with the air prior to getting in the combustion chamber?

Would also 'work' on a TBI engine.

Do a search here on those accessories before you spend.
But if the Jeep is louder certainly it has had an increase in power

so it seems like it might not increase power but it moves the power band to a lower rpm band...so whats wrong with that especially for those of us with bigger tires, less lugging in the lower rpms sounds good to me

I wonder if his elevation has anything to it? Keep us up to date I am not worried about HP gains but every penny save is a penny earned! Thanks for taking the time "A"

I would be happy to dyno test this on my 2.5 if someone wants to send me the part... I would even send it back if they wish...

if thats the case i wouldnt mind one if it gave me a tad more power at the low end/moved the power lower

In all deference to NaeKid and what he feels he has experienced with his, my opinion is that it's more of a placebo effect than anything. There's no technical reason a TB spacer will add anything to low-end torque.
