Inspection Question for my LJ.
You can check my profile for specs, but anyways I was reading through some rules and noticed this VA law.
Quote:
8. – INSPECT STEERING & SUSPENSION FOR: (Jack up front end as shown in Manual)
* Wear in bushings, kingpins, ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends.
* Looseness of gear box on frame, condition of drag link and steering arm.
* Play in steering wheel.
* Wheel alignment and axle alignment.
* Broken spring leaves, and worn shackles.
* Shock absorbers.
* Broken frame.
* Broken or missing engine mounts.
* Lift blocks.

Does this apply to my 2" BB that I have? I've never had to deal w/ coil spacers before so I'm unsure with how they'll react to this. If need be I can take it to a family friend who can get it inspected, but he's about half an hour away and I'd rather just do it in town real quick and get it over with.

Lift blocks are used to lift leaf spring suspensions, which you don't have so it should not apply.

ok, I was wondering what kind of "block" it was referring to. That makes more sense though.

Here's a pic, see that block that the leafs are sitting on top of the axle.
BTW, blocks that big aren't recommended

There are many threads discussing blocks versus other types of lifts.
Think about it this way...the u-bolts that support the blocks have to support all of the forward momentum of the jeep. Your LJ (which I own as well) uses springs instead of leaf springs.
Coil springs, think of a slinky that can support thousands of pounds of weight, are used on LJ's and TJ's. Leaf springs are in the picture mentioned before. Think of them as several pieces of metal slightly curved to provide upward suspension.
Your BB is simply installing coil spring spacers on top of the springs to provide lift. If you installed the spacers, you understand that they are technically a block on top of the springs. However, you do not change where the pressure is applied when braking or accelerating.
Blocks have a questionable history. Either way, unless you install leaf springs on your LJ, you are safe.

Well good to know, I know what blocks are, just always saw them under trucks, and with the strict history VA carries I wanted to make sure coil spacers wouldn't fall under that category because it seems they technically could be called a "block" as well.

I did a little bit more research....you are good.
Quote:

Virginia State Police
This is the point of blocks/body lifts...nothing else I could find in the code regarding spacers.
This is as specific as I could find. Judas...you would think they know what the return button does. I inserted some.
Quote:
No person shall drive on a public highway any motor vehicle registered as a truck if it has been modified by alteration of its altitude from the ground to the extent that its bumpers, measured to any point on the lower edge of the main horizontal bumper bar, exclusive of any bumper guards, do not fall within the limits specified herein for its gross vehicle weight rating category.
The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,500 pounds or less shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches.
The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,501 pounds to 7,500 pounds shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 29 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 30 inches.
The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 7,501 pounds to 15,000 pounds shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 30 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 31 inches.

Second edit and Judas...my wife is a lawyer and she would beat me for saying what I just said. Find a relative or a friend to confirm.
